I need your opinion . 300 Winchester mag

tikka tactical 300 wm I will never sell it 300yds 1 in group 178 gr ELDX . recoil haha get a brake for target shooting, hunting no brake.

Pros:

Lots of power to be had at extended range.
Common caliber so factory ammo is readily available
An accurate caliber with lots of handloading components available - Data, bullets, brass, primers etc
Not going to be obsolete anytime soon - In service with U.S. Army.
Pretty good resale value as many still like the 300 as a premier hunting cartridge

Cons:

Not a caliber for the faint of heart or folks who don't practice regularly - especially with hunting weight rifles
Tends to be at the point of diminishing returns. High blast and recoil for a moderate increase in performance.
Hard on throats. Barrels will lose their accuracy edge fairly quickly compared to other calibers.
Used to be that the 300 was a distinct increase in hunting performance, now with modern loads for the 30/06 - not so much.
Factory ammo is quite expensive relegating it more to a handloaders cartridge.
Other modern calibers deliver the same target accuracy performance at the same ranges with less shooter fatigue.

The .300 WM is best used to launch heavy bullets faster than a .30-06 can launch them. Loaded with tough 200 grain bullets, the .300 is one of the best all-rounders.

Great all round cartridge, even better if you reload. I can drop it down to 30-06 ballistics with 150 grain bullets and still get 1-1.5MOA for whitetail or shoot 200g and 208gr bullets with a full charge for moose and bear.

Not for the man bun crowd.

A good all around cartridge.

If all things are equal I'd opt for a 300 PRC over the WM.

Have 2 x 300W, i enjoy shooting them. I never felt the need to use them for hunting. My Steyr Scout 308 is in charge here

Got one not a long time ago. I will load down a 165 grain to around 2950-3000 fps for deer, and load NP 200 grains to full speed for bigger game. A N Fl moose hunting trip is going to happen next Fall. This will be a great all around cartridge.

A great magnum round which covers all large game animals in North America. Expensive to shoot, but capable at longer ranges than a .30-06; I never owned one, and stuck with .30-06 for my large game; my best friend owned a Kleinguenther .300 Winchester Magnum and he swore by it, took more game than I did.

1. Considering all aspects of it...effectiveness on game, versatility, accuracy, availability of ammo and components, shootability...I would have a hard time choosing any other cartridge for all-around use on North American game.

2. As I get older and sell off a lot of guns and pare down my collection, the .300WinMag remains one of the very few chamberings that I still have multiples of (the only others are .22lr, .308Win and .45-70govt).

3. I'll donate my third sentence to the my-shoulder-hurts-and-I-like-shiny-new-stuff crowd. I'm sure they need it. :)
