After waiting for years, I finally assembled this No4Mk1T replica

Hi folks, well, funny how life is sometimes. Started getting parts here and there, when opportunities presented themselves. I think this started when I ended up with a new, never-installed No4 Lee Enfield barrel. Put it away for an eventual worthy project. Then a very nice Mk1 action which I salvaged, by removing its bad barrel. Got the repro scope a few years after that... so, though about putting all that together. Got Gunco in Ottawa to install the barrel, and the pads for the scope base. Decided to dig out some nice beech furniture... and here we are, seriously some 5 or 6 years later, if not more; project almost complete (waiting for a matching beech buttstock before fitting the cheek piece, and it'll be officially finished).

Can't wait to try her out at the range.

Lou

I chose to use a spare Maltby-made action, dated 1942. Wanted a WW2-dated and Mk1 pattern, not Mk1*.

Scope is a repro which was made (I believe) in the Philippines? Or elsewhere? I think it's from an earlier batch of repros which were definitely not as bad as the Chinese stuff sold on Ebay which shouldn't be touched except just for show or display. We shall see how well it handles use soon. I'll try to look for more info on my scope. The covers actually came with the scope (and its transit box). I'll see how well the scope works before passing final judgement :)

Re bedding: I went with simple standard forend bedding: tight at the recoil draws, contact under the knox, free floating barrel except at muzzle, where forend pushes up with about 5 lbs of force. I'll see how it groups, didn't want to use match-rifle bedding, which may end up having either no effect or very little effect on the end result - mostly given my limited shooting talent! My goal here is to simply get a rifle that is reasonably well set up for repeatable decent grouping.

I have mine in the mail finally. 22 months in Regina then a month at my buddies so he can finger bang it first. I'm excited since I'll never get to own a real one.

Thrilled with this first test at the range today. Had some factory Winchester Super X 180gr soft point. Put this 10-inch gong at 200 yards. Walked my shots from bottom right. Last three shots were the two that peeled the sticker in the middle, and one right under that at 6 o'clock. I stopped there, given I had to make a victory dance! :)

Wow beauty! I’ve been thinking of doing this with my 1943 Savage. You mentioned the Chinese scopes are no good? How so? I would love to hear your feedback as I had my eye on one of those RSM scopes…

Any news on the Waffenmeister no32 scope? Their repros for german ww2 rifles have some decent reviews…

If only their was a way to legally cross a Numrich scope from the USA.

Thanks!

That's what is on mine. Stuart Hardcastle said he's not a big fan of them, there is a better version copy but I can't recall which one that is. Taiwan? I can't recall. I just got my rifle back a few days ago and haven't had the chance to do anything but finger bang it. The glass is super clear and it seems to track well enough just dicking around out the windows. But we'll see.

If it's ok with Lou I'll put a picture of mine up, I'm super excited about it. She's gorgeous! If the pictures work, I'm not good at the internet anymore.

Ugh. So bought the complete faux sniper off the ee over two years ago. Turned out to be amateur hour, pads in wrong places and most of the ill fitting screw holes stripped. Seller refunded me 75$ because he figured shouldn’t cost more than that to have someone re drill and tap the receiver. I found a donor action, sold the crap one. Sent it off to Stuart hardcastle at Lee enfield restorations in Regina. Took awhile but she’s home now and hopefully shoots well.

I have a No4MK2 Irish contract having an RSM scope and mount being married at Vulcan refinishing. Didn’t realize there were this many people doing the same thing. Looking forward to more range reports from OP. Lets see some groups on paper next!
