I just scooped a new Zastava M70 in 8x57, my favourite old world caliber. I like Mauser 98 type actions. This will be the first "big rifle" purchased brand new, that I intend to keep, since I started buying my own guns around 60 years ago. A Christmas/birthday present from my wife, dear woman.

I bought one in 458 winmag when tradeex had them. Awesome rifle for the price.
When i saw great north gun had them i went poking around on their site last night. I saw a mauser in 10.75x68 that i figured i better sleep on before buying as i wanted it real bad. It was gone this morning.

I saw they have one in 9.3x62 for a good deal!! And I also saw there is a full stock one on the EE same caliber for an ok price!! But my wife said:”witch one are you selling to buy the other one?” So I took that as a no lol!

Stonehorse: Just ordered it tonight. Don't start holding your breath just yet. :p

I debated maybe getting a 6.5x55, but I have several nice 96's and a couple of 38's, plus I have a pile of 8x57 ammo. Just scored a couple more boxes of that real nice FNM Portugese 8x57, plus have scads of clean Yugo surplus. :)

A full wood model M70 in 9.3x62, ;) aka 366 Wagner was my first. Was  totally amazed at the accuracy with a couple of my initial handloads, so much so, I ordered a second in 7x57.:d:d

You could have your wife buy one, and you buy the other one

Did the same, accurate rifle, when i feel the need for recoil, i take it behind the barn and shoot 5 rounds on Coke cans. I am good for a while

What hints at these being discontinued?

Zastava also makes military arms. It's their primary business, sporting arms are a drop in the bucket and only made in waves between military contracts. This has been known for a while that they aren't making any new sporting rifles for the forseeable future.

Which is fine with me, I have one that I don't suspect is much different than anyone else's and it's a piece of junk. I would rather have built a 9.3x62 on a Savage Axis.

I have a few of them and have had an overall good experience with them. Mind you my rifles are from 2012-14. Seems like some of the newer production rifles have had quality control issues.

Mike is yours a 9.3x62? And since it is a piece of #### maybe you want to get rid of it? I’ll pay shipping and then you don’t have to think about it no more!!

^ zastavas are loved because they represent a good deal in a commercial Mauser in exotic chamberings. I had a pretty rough one as well, I was lucky to trade it to a member who liked tinkering. There is no way I would have gone to the lengths you did with yours to get it running.

When you look in the mirror every morning you stare the Zastava quality inspector in the eye…

For me ( and I’m 6ft tall) at the bare minimum they require a shorter LOP out of the box

Call me crazy but I still think they represent a decent deal

I am very happy with my 6.5 x 55 M70; The metal finish is amazing and the wood on mine is too pretty, and does not really fit me 100%, so the wife bought me a Mauser 98 Archangel stock for Christmas.

Not discontinued; production has been deferred for high volume defense orders. Same with Norinco; the sporting market is not as profitable as selling and shipping large volumes of a few items to a single shipping destination.

If it's that bad, send me a PM; I will give you $100.00 and pay the shipping.

If you get a good one they are usually pretty good. My blued 7x57 came with a magnum extractor which was useless, but I had spare 98 extractors on hand, other then that it's been fine, fairly gritty action on it.
The 7x64 stainless is great, no issues and smooth. I'd buy more of the SS ones if they still made them.

I think they are a pretty decent looking rifle, and from all accounts a credible M98 action.

Damn near bought one in 8x57! But I need another rifle like I need another hole in the head!
