The M-14's are in.

Patiently waiting. I already ordered my stock and a cheek piece. Ordered mine about a month ago. I guess I wont be getting my christmas present for christmas.

X2.Enjoy Christmas and then maybe enjoy Ukrainian Christmas with your chinese M-305.

Cool, we're planning on having a Ukranian meal this Ukranian Christmas, first time in a few years. Nice way to look at it, i orderd mid November as well, a new rifle for Ukranian Christmas would be awsome :D

I had the chance to handle and dismantle and inspect marstar's product today...... my review will come later as it wasn't my rifle. However, while in the middle of working on VooDooMan's new m14s..... canada post knocked on my door..... on a sunday..... to deliver my new m14s courtesy of a different m14s dealer, who i ordered the rifle from a week ago friday. The rifle was shipped to me from Quebec. I will say this... and my full review will come later....... the two rifles , from two different dealers.... with a very similar price..... exhibit the same "quality", came in the same box, included the same items, and instruction booklet/manual. I had p.m.'d a member and stated that i paid 405....... my mistake.... my cost was 420.00, 477.00 including taxes and shipped to my door.
full review to come later.

M14 finish

Punisher, I am not an expert on these guns but mine seems pretty good, it has a few small dings in the stock and the finish on all the metal parts is good, lets wait and here what 45 has to say about them as I think they might all be much the same and he is much better schooled in these matters:)

okies..... i was gonna wait for voodooman to post up but... he must be busy... so here goes.
BUT first..... I want to say.... I am not posting this with any bias, this is just simple observation of rifles from 3 different dealers, 2 i purchased from and one is marstars which is voodoomans new rifle.

first ones came in october, purchased from dark for 50 bucks more than marstars 399.00 ... NO DATE STAMP on right side receiver, barrel correctly indexed, gas system did not require shimming, but op rod guide was a bit loose..easily remedied. I dropped in a trw bolt.... lapped it lightly for a few minutes..... bang on .308.... i think, the stock norc bolt measured at around 9 thou over 7.62go....

purchased a new rifle from Armurerie Du Lac Enr. for 420.00(p.m. weimajack)
paid last friday, here today. Rifle is identical in every way to the marstar rifle. I am guessing but could be wrong..... that these rifles may have originated with marstar.
So... upon inspection..... op rod guide very loose, barrel over indexed by say 4 degrees, and gas system very loose. Bolt timing and general travel seemed good/normal and it appreared both right and left hand bolt lugs were engaging equally. We were not able to check headspace at this time.

BOTH the quebec supplied rifle and the marstar rifle had "2007" stamped on the right side of the receiver. My quebec supplied rifle's serial number is , if i remember correctly, 30 digits higher in number than voodooman's marstar rifle..... hmmmmmm

The two rifles exhibited the same level of quality control, with the same "undesirable" issues. HOWEVER... these issues are common and easily remedied to some degree.

My new rifle from the quebec dealer has the nicest and hardest chinese wood stock I have ever seen..... I was just gonna sell it when the rifle arrived but this stock is a keeper ;)

my advice, it probably doesn't matter where you get your new m14s.... I pleased with the one that arrived regardless of the norc quality control issues exhibited. All in all, the m14s i bought from Al Simmons shop in hamilton last year, over the phone from b.c. and the rifle i got from Dark in october, were both excellent and the best i've seen. The 2 guns i've seen so far with the 2007 date stamp..... both need my home gunsmith attention. But i like tinkerin so..... I'd buy another from either marstar or weimajack or any other dealer offering them for similar pricing.... get em were and when you can... while you still can..
there's lot's of support here on cgn for workin out the kinks

Great.. what did I read about Their high quality standard??? I guess they meant something else.

Does DARK still have some? Why pay less for a ####ty rifle.

putting things into perspective though..... I only looked at 2 rifles out of potentially thousands hiting the market right now.

They have shipped out lots of these... hundreds I guess???....a couple thousand??
But only a few people Here have got them. It shows you how many firearms owners don't use this site at all. Why do some people roll their eyes when you mention this site??
Anyway.... Yippee it's monday...

It's ignorance..that's all, just plain ignorance. I don't know what I'd do without Gunnutz? Or the people may not have a computer :)

Thnx 4 the review

Thank you .45ACP,
I have yet to recieve my M-14 and know absolutely d!ck about the operations of one. But I'm sure that with your unbiased report and the stickie's help thats been posted on GunNutz I'll be able to at least see where the issues lie. As to whether I'll be able to home remedy them is another matter. We'll see.

Added note..Is it possible to turn any report about the *new batch* of M-14s (like .45's) into a sticky so that newbs like myself will have an idea what to look for?
Or since an M-14 is an M-14 reports on the new batches would be pointless?

Hungry here: there is a sticky posted by Lazerus2000 about what to look for in the most recent batch (2003 to current) of M14's hitting our shores. Soon you will be ready for my M14 clinics making their way across Western Kanada in August 2008.

Ok thanks Hungry. I just want to be absolutely sure my #### didn't fall off due to something not quite right on my gun.

Laz'es M-14 inspection sticky

Well, I read Lazzerus's "Pre-useage inspection" sticky on the M-14....wow, so much to look for.
I know people are saying the new guns coming in are far superior to the older guns from years ago. Even with that being said, I think I will still take the time and expence to attend one of the seminars that is being offered before I fire one round out of it.
I'm kinda concerned about the differences in the NATO ammo vs commercial
.308. I would like to take it to the range for target shooting the odd time but I don't want to be spending the money to do it with hunting ammo after head spacing for commercial .308 Win.
Or am I out in left field here?
Can I use both? Milsurp 7.62 NATO at the range then commercial .308 hunting ammo for the deer season?:confused::confused:

as far i know and can understand ... yes
first one of these i owned, before joining this site, I took it camping, bought 2 boxes american eagle 150 gr fmj .308 win and had at er..... not a problem. no idea what the headspace was.... no idea what to look for for tune up.... just cleaned her real good.... lubed as i would any other rifle..... and bang bang bang. i hear of lots of guys shooting 7.62 nato surplus and no real "incidents" so far.
the tightening up of the issues that are with these rifles.... will or should, make it group better and cause less wear on parts due to sloppy movement.
and don't necessarily pose a safety threat.
where headspace and ammo selection are more critical is when you swap in a bolt that is foreign to the rifle, such as a usgi bolt. this makes the chamber too tight for 7.62 nato.... in most cases. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO SWAP OUT YOUR NORC BOLT TO HAVE A GOOD SHOOTER....... Listen to the wise words of master Hungry ;)

Case in point, one my M14s which I bought to tinker with has the typical bolt slop(thanks Hungry for the technical term :p ) on an empty chamber. The barrel seems properly indexed so I figured no worries, 'shoot her' until I figure out which direction I want to bubba it.

Not even having shot it, I tried to drop a USGI bolt in and it wouldn't lock up completely(would require lapping) so I put the Norc bolt back in....much later after this spare M14 has collected enough dust to look it's proper vintage :p I decided to compare the parts with other bits I have.

The bolt locks up super tight with no slop on IVI and DA.
The rear sights work(and yes I disassembled and reassembled without fear)
The oprod slide rather freely
The gas cyl assembly is tight(ok, it doesn't get tight at the 4 o'clock and need the crunch to 6...I have shims but it is actually tight with no slop so I don't care for the time being).

NOW the problem...I like tinkering. This rifle is actually a good example and has left me with little desire to mess with it. So instead of wasting money on her, she has forced me to buy other toys and mess with them.

Got the pair this morning I ordered from Marstar in mid November, things seem to be moving along alright. Was certainly a nice Christmas present to myself :D. I'm a bit taken back about how much cosmo was on the thing, took the better part of an hour to get it decent. The wood seems soft but is more than usable until I can get a better stock.
