Anyone notice that Cadex is now putting out a 223 bolt gun?

Covert is restricted, is it not? Folder with 11 inch barrel or am I missing something?

From the PDF:

" Cadex also offers a version equipped with 16.5" barrels in order to comply with the 26" minimum overall length regulations in many countries."

16.5 is less than 18 inch. Or it only applies if its cut and not manufactured as 16.5?

18.5” applies to semi’s, this is a bolt gun and only needs to meet the OAL requirement to be non-restricted

If I understood your question correctly :d

Hm? How does .300 do from 16.5 inch energy wise? Anyone knows any msrp on all that, I can't see anything on Cadex website.

So there is a new action SS Stars, 3 lug rem700 footprint. Practically same everything as R7 which is 4 lug. Is it cheaper option than R7 in same calibers?

I doubt MDT and MPA have much to worry about.

Nevertheless, always good to have more options.

I recently put an MPA on my 22LR, but if this chassis was available at the time, I would have bought the Cadex instead. Cadex has been so supportive for center fire PRS, I like to support them back.

Not to throw MDT to the curb, they have also been very supportive to the sport.

Both being Canadian companies, it's nice to see them doing well.

I do not recall ever seeing an MPA chassis on the prize table in Canada.

Pricing will have to come out first but they do all look the same now don't they. The XLR Envy, MPA, MDT ACC, AI AT-X (not yet available), Vision chassis are pretty much copies of one another.

They list the 223 with a 1:8 barrel, I would think you would want heavier bullets(80-90gr) for a build like this? I have a Savage stealth in 223, came with a 9 twist for whatever reason. It shoots 69gr smk extremely well but i haven't had much luck with heavier bullets.

I agree that it's great to support companies that support our sport, and I have no doubt that people will support Cadex because of that.

Cadex has great quality, and I certainly couldn't fault anyone for choosing a Cadex. I think this product will certainly be more appealing to those that shoot competitions, it seems pretty smartly designed and feature rich.

No experience with 16.5" barrels, but my 10.5" barrel will push a 110gr vmax 2260fps and a 135gr Sierra varminter 2065fps, both with H110. Alot of people on the net say their 16" barrels get them ~2400fps with a 110gr (1400ish ftlbs) and 2250fps with 125s. At 100y the energy would be in the 1050-1150 ftlb range.

Im interested in this. I've been looking for a 223 Bolt gun that's not a tikka for a while now and this looks like it may fit the bill. Be a wicked cheap target shooter/ coyote rig. Sign me up

I agree completely but I suspect they are targeting the PRS Tactical Division shooters who work with under 80 grain bullets. I dont recall the upper limit of bullet weight for Tactical Division but I think its 77 grains.

If you want to run 88s and 90s, you will want a faster twist, a longer throat and modified mags for the extra length. I run 90s from a mag with an OAL of 2.650", but that is way out of SAMMI spec, so not likely a production gun is going to mass produce something like that. Just because its a 223, does not mean you must abide by the light bullet rule... just run in open class and race it up.

If the factory twist rate was 1:7, all you would need to do is extend the throat. As it comes with 1:8, you will need a new barrel once you tire of 80s.
