Kibler Colonial Flintlock

I assembled a 58 cal Colonial Flintlock kit in 58 cal. Just like the SMR Kibler kit I built last year, this had amazing quality parts. I used aquafortis to stain the wood, tung oil finish, two rounds of rust blue and rubbed back to somewhat grey with 800 grit scotch pad. I will let the brass tarnish so it takes on an antique look overall. I can’t wait to shoot it when the weather warms up.

I see that Jim Kibler has three more projects on the go - a flintlock hunting rifle, a percussion Hawken, and a smoothbore flintlock fowler/trade gun.
And has a new 5-axis CNC machining center.

Thanks, I ordered it on-line directly from Jim Kibler longrifles. It takes about 4 months to get the order depending on Calibre and such. The quality is amazing. I don’t know how many hours I put in it but it wasn’t bad at all. Mostly finishing work. Maybe 25 hours total or so.

I think I will wipe the brass with blackpowder residue to get that patina.

It tips the scale at 8.6 lbs and balances perfectly.

I am hoping to shoot it Sunday, should be fun.

I like the looks of the new woods runner rifle they will soon be producing and may have to get one.They also going to produce a percussion hawker kit and a Fowler/trade kit

I took it to the range today. Great fun to shoot, really fast ignition, handles well, accurate. I am surprised how little recoil there is. I tried 70, 80, 90 and 100 gr ffg. The trigger is very nice. I will have to practice my off hand shooting, I can’t hold it steady as long as I would like right now. I am going to make a little lollipop peep sight for it, my eyes aren’t very good with rear sights anymore. Great rifle all around.

I'm really looking forward to the release of the smoothbore.
Can't get excited about a Hawken, although they sure have a following. For that sort of rifle, I have a half stocked .54, which I believe started out as a GRRW kit. Good shooting rifle with real oomph.
I've always enjoyed smoothbores.

i did not see that on the site im sure interested in a percussion rifle from him

Absolutely beautiful kit. I'm currently building a colonial in .50 cal. I agree the metal work takes the longest. Had all parts fitted in a few hours. Now the slow process of finishing the lock and brass parts. Well worth the wait.
