.308 Winchester Suggestions?

I have enjoyed my Savage 11 scout a lot, the scout isn't for everyone, but you can scope it like a common rifle. I like Popping the scope off and using the iron sights or dropping a red dot on it.
I also have a BLR and Remington 7600 in 308, both classics in the hunting fields
Two of my daughters have bolt actions in 308, a CZ 557 and a Mossberg Patriot. They do very well with these and are quite happy with them
Any of these will do you well, good luck in your search.

Id go with a older blr in .308 for a hunting rifle,if you like bolt actions Id go with a tikka t3x lite for a bit more over your budget, one heck of a nice rifle for the. Price.Ive had a few x bolts and they all cost a lot more than. The tikka and I don't think any of them were as smooth or shot as good as the tikka

I just picked up a Winchester XPR Sporter in 308 and it is fantastic, smooth bolt and accurate. The MOA trigger takes a bit of getting used to as it has no creep, or take up, it just breaks. Under $800 if you look, leaves some coin for optics or ammo.

I’m a big fan of the 308. Easy to get components and easy to get to shoot. Under 1k is tough because you’ll probably get stuck with a plastic stock. Maybe buy something you can upgrade later. Or shop for a used one? My most recents 308’s are a Tikka and model 700 stainless in a laminate stock. Both are very accurate. The model 700 is always a good place to start if you want to upgrade later.

Look for used win 70, Rem 700,bdl or sps . Tikka is good quality. All rifles mentioned will shoot inside 1.5 “ @ 100 yds . Most mentioned can b purchased as a lightweight or standard weight if you are going to carry a lot and shoot seldom a lightweight is good if you wish to spend time at the range the a standard weight will fill the need
600-$900 will any of those mentioned.
The Tikka and Rem have endless options for builds . You could turn it into a long range gun simply by changing the chassis. I shoot sporter bbl’s out to 1200 yds

Remington 760 pump in 308, reliable, accurate an durable.
If you are used to an 870 pump shotgun then this will feel familiar right away.

I have a like new one that I am posting in the EE tomorrow so stay tuned :)

Rem SPS or Tikka T3/X Light. Either would be good starting points and easily sourced with a bit of patience.

I started with a rem700 AAC SD and have never regretted it. If you want more rifle down the road, there are few limits to what you can enhance.

Hard to find right now but for a budget rifle the rem 783 heavy barrel version is decent. Better design then the savage and more metal than the 700. Mdt supports the 783 in their lss line as well. I have both 223 and 308 and they both shoot better than my abilities
