Anyone ever have a Leupold go bad on them, I have a vx-2 1-4 that I think is toast. I bought it new in 2015 and mounted it on a CZ safari 375 H&H and was always able to shoot moa with this combo and my hand loads. I hadn’t shot the rifle in a few months and brought it out last fall and it became a 7 moa rig with my favorite load. Took it out yesterday with an assortment of ammo and the same results. Now I am going to mount another scope to rule out the rifle but it is a relatively low mileage gun.

Yep. A few. Good idea to check it's not the rifle with a different scope. If your suspicions are confirmed, ship it off to Korth. They usually turn warranty work around pretty quick!

Is multiple possibilities that you pretty much have to eliminate one by one. As you surmise, is possible something failed in the scope or the scope mounting while it sat in storage - hard to say?? Also, the bedding in your rifle could have changed - dried out or took on moisture - maybe check the action screw torque - too tight or too loose? Clearance for the barrel - I do not know how CZ rifle barrels were originally bedded? Or, even, you, the shooter, may have changed a bit. I have a number of extra scopes here - so swap out to another scope - is what I would do first, because I can. See if that makes a difference. If you know another decent shooter, get them to try it - for sure with my son and my deer rifle off of sandbags at the range - same rifle, same scope, same box of hand loads - he would struggle to get 5 rounds at 2" or less - I would do 1" to 1.25" pretty consistently - so the shooter is part of it as well.

In desperation, I have removed the scope and used just the iron sights - at 25 yards. Most shooters should be able to get the holes very close to touching each other at that range. In this case, I was getting 4" 3 shot groups with the irons - at 25 yards - the "fault", so far, is thought to be the .005" oversize groove diameter that was found by slugging the bore - we never did have that rifle shooting well - no clue how the previous owner hunted with it - or at least hit anything with it? So, starting to get fairly esoteric - check that there is no corrosion within the bore, or damage to the crown.

Mounts were checked with a torque wrench and reticle was checked for level, after some research on the particular rifle I did just check the action screws and 2 out of 3 were about 20 inch pounds lite of spec so I’ll try that first.

Yes, While I understand and accept that defects can occur, and appear after initially performing perfectly, I found my brand new Leupold vx3i to be defective upon receipt. The Korth group repaired and returned it to me. However, one would hope that defects would be identified during the quality control process. No more new leupolds for me.

Being a retailer of optics for 30 years I have found scopes that were bad out of the box including a couple of Leupolds as well as Zeiss and Swarovski and others. Higher end optics fail considerably less than entry level brands. The true test of a brand is what they will do when you have a problem. If a brand of optics is continually failing then you may be correct in avoiding those in the future in spite of how well they are repaired but in my experience Leupold is not one of them. Phil.

I gotta say these folks and their operation over at Korth are first class, if everyone ran their businesses this way the world would be a much better place!

Leupolds are my favourite scopes

i've had 2 break
sent to korth and was very satisfied with the results.
One could not be repaired and they sent me a new one.
