k98 whats it worth

whats wrong with Ontario? youll be backkkk!

Never lived there [and never intend to]. Been there twice. Once in Feb @ -30 C and another time in June with humidity off the map. Wondered if there was ever a time when the weather there was nice like the balmy west coast here.... :p

i have a model 98 1941 nice stock barrel is good bolt is not matching what are they worth thanks

I'm going to side with Claven2 on this.

The poster didn't even take the time to push CAPSLOCK on the beginning of the sentence, much less provide a single picture. At least spend five minutes on a half decent description. Your camera's broken? If you don't own a camera, take the time to borrow a friend's.

I'm curious about this gun, and I know that with sufficient information you will find guys eager to offer opinions.

:needPics:

Well, Claven2 was - well - forthright - in stating his opinion.
But he is absolutely correct in that even an approximate valuation of a K98k cannot be made without specific, detailed information.

Awwwwwright, now we have some action in Milsurp!

And some guys think this is a sleepy, quiet, little spot.:p

Claven, get back on those meds:D.

Hi

A few more price points I saw at the last show:

Yugo model 47's in *very* good shape $130.

All matching late war, common code rifles in darn good shape $500-800.

One *very* nice pre-war rifle for $3,7200. I have no idea at all what supported that price.

A questionable sniper for about $5,300 (I didn't look very close ...)

Adolph's second cousin's favorite k98 with autograph and picture, absolutely guaranteed to be the real thing. I didn't even slow down long enough to let the guy get to the price ...

Bob

Bob,

Those are, unfortunately, US prices. In Canada they can get much inflated from that point. For example, the Yugo 47's START at about $300 for mediocre examples.

A little off topic but..

I would just like to add the members have been very helpful to me on a number of occasions. When I asked for more information about my 2 Mausers, on old Portuguese Model 1904 and my nice little Israeli built on a GEW.

The information and price estimates they gave me helped me to make a reasonably decent decision to keep them, even though I rarely get out to the range. That info was much appreciated.

But as noted above pictures, descriptions of marking etc are required. As for bore condition I have no idea how to reasonably gauge that, but they shoot straight so they can not be totally shot out.

Hi

On bore condition, even visual data can be helpful. Since they used corrosive ammo under battlefield conditions you can see pitted corroded bores. You can also see bores that are not pitted, but have gone dark (as opposed to shiny) in places from corrosion.

Once you get to "bright bore, lands and groves shine" you need fancy tools ...

Heres my 2 cents on k98k prices. I currently own a few, so I believe I can speak with some certainty.

RC's in VG condition 300-350

yugo's in vg condition 450-500

czechs/vopo's if early reworks, ie still all matching, id say 600, if however, they are refurbed where they arent all matching, 450.

no post war crap, non matching 600-700

all matcing except bolt 650-750

all matching port 850-1100, there seems to be big fluctuation in these prices.

all matching, all correct k98k, avg year and maker. (With many codes and years being huge exceptions) 1800-2500

Condition and maker, codes etc etc etc all comes into play.

EDIT to add.

these are prices I have encounted over the years. MANY rifles are bought for more or for less, depending on luck, or how badly someone wants a rifle that is rarely seen on the market

I can understand where Claven2's frustration comes from, but I do feel pity for the fellow that asked the original question. How about a sticky in the milsurp forum for "what information should I give to get a value on my milsurp". That way newbies would have a good idea what information/photos they need to post to get accurate answers from the wealth of knowledge that is CGN. It may also prevent some members from having a vapour lock ;) .

I understand Claven2's frustration as well. Between the "What's it worth?" and "What are these marks on my Enfield?" repetitive questions, I sometimes want to grab a valium when I see the same people, having to answer the same questions over and over and over again.

Perhaps it's just my own work ethic, but instead of taking the lazy way out and having others do my work for me, I at least make an attempt to use "Google" or the "CGN Search Function" before I throw up a question.

BTW, I really like your sticky idea about what information should be given, but I bet the same people who fail to use the tools available, probably wouldn't first read the sticky anyway. :D

Badger

Hi

I'd vote for a sticky one the Enfield markings. They are unlikely to change any time soon ....

Bob

If anyone wants to put together an accurate, researched post for "What does No4 Mk1 mean?" or "what's my Mauser worth?", I'll be more than happy to put a Milsurp FAQ sticky in this forum.
