Just imagine there were two A-5’s in front of you.
Both in the same superb condition.
One an A-5 20 gauge.
T’uther an A-5 Sweetsixteen.

Which one would draw the most $$ at an auction?

I shot a 16 gauge S x S for years... just had to buy ammo by the case so I had it... so it would be a Sweet 16 for me...

Perhaps is what you want?? Unusual to get a Sweet 16 - maybe great to show and to brag about - not sure about getting ammo any more, though. Even stupid me has 20 gauge 2 3/4" factory ammo on hand - so the 20 could be shot almost immediately - if I wanted to. Not so with the 16 gauge.

I suppose the 20 is more versatile, while the 16 is harder to feed, but the perfect gauge…

I have the A-5 in 16, but with a 2 5/8” chamber. It handles beautifully, and I wouldn’t trade it for a later model!

I've been through my Auto-5 shotgun phase, but they're long gone.
I'd love to fondle a Sweet Sixteen for a bit, but I think that I can resist that temptation.

I've had a couple of auto-5's over the years but they were in 12 guage and they just didn't tickle my fancy enough to keep them around. Having said that, a Sweet Sixteen would be a gresat gun to have but you should be a hand loader to get the most out of it and I do happen to load 16's for my side by sides. You can sometimes find Federal factory ammo around here but they kick like the provibial mule in my light guns so I have a 1 0z/ 1150 fps second hand load that is pleasant to shoot... speaking of which I need to get the press going again! The 20 would be the more practical of the two unless you can roll your own.

You asked which will bring more money and has nothing to do with ammo availability
Current 16ga owners want them and will pay way more for a real one than any other A5 dude that doesn't currently own a 16ga
There is one A5 worth more than the rest for resale and it is the 16ga sweet 16 and the only A5 I kept 20 years ago for that reason when I dumped the rest

Just my useless 2 cents
Cheers

Just a quick google of US gun adds....

Sweet 16's ranging from $1500 to $2700 and $3500 for NIB.

20 guage Auto 5's ranging from $1100 to $2500, unique models such as DU or fancy wood up to $3400 and no examples of NIB.

From what I see it's pretty difficult to say one is worth more than the other.

And how much did you get for it ???

Not as much as I could have.
The wood on the one i sold was refinished, professionally though...
The gentleman i sold it to was a really nice stand up guy who is local to me so I let it go for 30-40% less than I would have listed it on here for.
My research showed they ranged from $1750-4000 American.
Most being $2200-3000.
The 16ga's were literally the same price but I think there was more 16ga available than 20.

The problem with the 16ga is most think because it is a 16ga it is a sweet 16 and with the vintage ones it isn't marked like the later ones
Lots of 16ga agree but true sweet not so much
To me I hate them all with that hump back and shoulder like a 2x4 :)
Cheers

Lol I agree, I don't like the barrel moving back and forth either.
I had a 12 ga for a couple yrs and got rid of it

I would think the 20 gauge ,as they are more popular ,would get more, but I myself would take the 16 gauge, as I like odd gauge guns like the 28 and 16.:)
