Hey guys,

With my next taxe return i am allowed to buy one…just one though

Which caliber im gona pick , i don't know.. (i guess it depends on the price) probably 22 mag or 357

But im having hard time deciding between lever and pump.. i want something very western cowboy .

The fun factor is more important.
The second thing is the ease of reselling it later.. i don't want to be stuck with something hard to sell (in case i need money or something)

It seems lever are more popular, especially any mare's leg.

At my range people don't use lever or pump.. people only use bolt or semi
I rarely see cowbow stuff.. but im a big fan of anything cowboy..

Since i have short arms, i prefer shorter barrel.. under 20 (ideally 16)

I can get the henry pump.. someone has one for sale.. but should i rather wait for next henry shipment and get something else?

I owned a beautiful Remington 572 that I probably never should have sold. Fun rifle but I have to admit I prefer my 22lr Levers more.

I have shot both and like both .you mentioned 22 mag or 357 ? unless you reload 357 is going to cost you to shoot big time . and 22 mag is more expensive than basic 22LR. I don't mean to rain on your parade . in my opinion the pump is faster than the leaver . but the leaver 22 would more than likely work better in cold weather . look for a Browning 22 leaver it's a short throw as in you don't have to move the leaver as far when you cycle the action . a buddy has one . the Old Marlin 22 levers are excellent but get your wallets out . are you just target shooting with it or hunting also ?

Good luck in your choice .

No hunting.. just plinking…. But i have a bunch of 22lr already.. so im trying other calibers. i can reload since i have two press , a dillon for doing 9mm. I'll just need to buy the appropriate dies if i go center fire..

I may go 22lr, i don't know… i don't have any 22wmr and i'd like to have atleast one 22 mag.

At the moment, I have a rough rider rancher in 22lr in my safe…just waiting for the 22mag cylinder for it like everybody else.

When i look at youtube.. the pumping seems more natural to me.

My only experience with lever action was the daisy bb back when i was young. Honestly i hated the daisy lever… its lever was way too stiff and hurting my fingers.
My local gunsmiths don't have any lever in stock. So i can't try for now. Thats why im trying the forum so i don't learn the hard way.

As far as caliber, 22LR all the way! Especially if plinking at the range is on your mind. Both 357 and 22 mag are expensive compared to 22LR. I like levers!

Lever for cowboys and fast, natural chambering of the next round.
Your Daisy BB gun had a long and difficult lever throw in order to compress the spring, you will find a big difference when operating the action of a real rifle.

Thanks eveyone…

I went ahead and bought the henry h001 in 22 wmr. Only place that had it was canadiantire lol… was theire last one.. they also had the henry youth in 22lr

Time to try it out at the club

Pump fpr short pistol calibers. Colt lightning and its clones. Levers for bigger longer cartridges.
Although i do own a 300 savage and 308 in remington pumps if i were to buy another pump rifle it would be a pistol caliber for fun.

I use to have a Rossi 22lr pump and that thing was so fast it was almost like a semi, if you kept your finger on the trigger you only had to pump for the bullets to fly out! A similar gun in 44 mag would be awesome!!
