ALERT Federal Primers

Any Canadian company starting to make primers? I sure hate being second in line.

Yes, it seems incredible that we do not have enough gun, powder and primer production if any, while the market is definitely there. IMR powders are produced here but shipped directly to the US so they get served first...Why would countries like Sweden with 10 million people, Finland with 5 million people be able to do it and not Canada with our 38 million people? Politics probably.

Oh we have no problems making weapons and ammo, just not for us, prefer sell to Saudia Arabia.

I hadn't heard that. So in combination with the new Expansion Industries plant in Texas that will be two new sources for primers.

Good news if true but I can't find a single thing online about Hornady making primers. They don't make anything for their ammunition themselves aside from the bullet so it would be a somewhat surprising development.

If you have a well tuned PPC revolver you don't have any other options. I've tried Winchester, CCI, Fiocchi, Tula, Wolf, Dominion (the Russian ones) and the only ones that detonate reliably are Federals.

Right there with you, and not only my revolvers my competition pistol, a tanfoglio can only use federal as well, the price you have to pay to have an awesome trigger pull.

There is a new company called Expansion Industries starting up in the US .they have invested $ 100 million into a moth balled munitions plant in Texas to start producing primers . they hope to be near or at full production by early to mid 2023 . probably will not help us here north of the border though . google The Turkeys opinion on youtube he has a couple videos out about Expansion Industries and the start up . he also talks about federal and cci halting public sales of primers .

Pretty sure I watched a video produced by the folks at federal in which the big boss spoke specifically about the primer issue and how it would affect the civillian market in the next couple years. Might have been near a year ago that the video was put out there by Federal.

Primer shortage should have been no surprise to anyone.
That said..... I have 500 CCI no 34 milspec primers I'd trade for 500 federal large rifle primers hehehe

NO desire. I LOAD AND SHOOT 2 to 3k rounds a year so it's not a money making stockpile. Will just allow me to keep shooting.

it would be great if primers were actually made here in Canada .along with other components.

There's no economic argument for a domestic primer manufacturer. Our domestic industry went away with the end of protective tariffs.
It's impossible to be competitive on unit costs when the major suppliers are producing billions of primers.
Smart money doesn't invest based on a temporary disruption in the marketplace.

They could follow suit with our powder manufacturers and just ship most of it South.
