he was shot in texas....

my first reaction was WTF...how could anyone get excited over shooting such a small deer?... I have seen button bucks bigger than this thing

I am blessed to live in Northwestern Ontario wher a mature buck will go easily over 300lbs on the hoof...

My heaviest to date,St,George,NB Field dressed 214....haven't topped him yet in 12 years.DOH!!!

I haven't shot a truely big bodied deer yet, my dad shot one whitetail many years ago that filled up the back of a pickup truck 8' box. My brother shot a mule deer one year that it was all I could do to throw half on my back and pack it to the hangin spot, and I am not small or weak. As far as weighing animals.... we don't do it very often so I have no actual numbers, just a GRUNT and PUCKER factor

We always weigh the ones we get down St.George camp as we have a 'lil bragging rights/just for fun trophy amongst the camps in the area.Dad's '04 buck was weighed at a DNR regi station where they take the jaw and weight for research.

I took a nice 5 x 6 acouple years ago in my neighbors field, second cut was still on feild antlers sticking up past tops up to my knees. That is how I found him lost track when he ran. He was 287. Good eatin though.

I got a chuckle out of this thread when I first read it.

Over the years, everytime I talk to my huntiing buddies back east about the deer I took they ask "how heavy was it?" and every time I talk to my hunting buddies out west about the deer I shot they ask what'd it score?

Two differents standards eh?

Nice looking deer there grouseman.

I was thinking the same thing Mumptia. I have yet to remember the weight of any of my deer. Three or four of them have been a real bugger to haul up into the back of the truck, that's all I remember.

My Bull Elk was 542lbs on the hook inthe butcher shop which really impressed him. Not as big as they can get int he back country but this one was shot in agricultural land. Wish I could have weighed my bull moose from last fall, my gosh what a load to haul back to camp!:runaway:

For many people getting excited and happy about their kill has nothing to due with antler size or body weight and to think your better then this guy because your deer has bigger horns or body weight is pretty ignorant.

Cheers!!

I think you are missing the point of this thread.

I really do not pay attention to score as I do not beleyive the 5x6 will ever be my biggest antlered deer to date. Never have scored one but only managed to weigh it as my buddy has a barn with a scale. Could be out though!! I caught your comment the 287 is weight not score Mumptia
