Hello all, I'm moving to Alberta next week, I'm a bow hunter and if I can a rifle hunter.
Anyone around Edmonton area that might wanna be a hunter guide this fall if we are allowed to actually practice our sport?

Need to get out of Edmonton a ways for hunting. Not that there isn't game closer, but the counties close have anti shooting ordinances. Tons of white tails around here, mulies and moose and elk to the west. Bears everywhere, wolves. For varminting coyotes, gophers, marmots out west. Cougars to hunt too. Used to be pretty close to paradise. Still lots of game, just further out. - dan

If you can get landowner permission you can access the Edmonton bow zone in Strathcona County which borders Edmonton. Moose and deer with over the counter tags, a few elk in some areas but they aren’t plentiful. Landowner permission is the biggest issue. Check with the local Fish and Wildlife offices in the area, they should point you in the right direction. Sherwood Park Fish and Game club may also be a good source for you, they have both archery and firearms ranges. Also check out the Sherwood Park Archery Club, numerous hunters in the club when I belonged and a great target and 3d facility.

Thanks guys sorry for the late reply I'm going to be new to Edmonton area I'll go wherever I need to bow under rifle hunt I don't mind either or I know you need specific license for it but to start off I'm going to need a hunting guide basically someone who's held a license in Alberta, to take me out, I'd be glad to join someone's hunt, just for the experience of being out with others, I don't need to hunt

Join Alberta outdoors form, CGN is great but you are talking to people from all over Canada here. On the outdoors form it’s %95 Alberta guys.

With a whole whack load of lefty twits there too, that seem to be under special protection :p

Oh I agree with that, but it’s the poster best chance of finding someone to take him I think. His chances are slim as it is, guys won’t give out hunting spot information at all, he will have a better chance of asking for a night with their wives and getting a yes then getting someone to give up hunting spots. But he will soon learn that, we all did when we first got in to hunting.

First thing you'll need is a WIN card. Wildlife Identification Number. That will let you get all your other licenses . - dan

Lots of great land to access. But an ATV is almost a requirement.

Didn't they open the Strat County Deer to BP and shotguns too?

One place I spent a bunch of time in, was across the ferry at Vega, follow the road West, and head North at the first road intersection, until you hit the gate. Park there. North some more (30 minutes or so) on the quad, and there is a Snowmobile club campsite with outhouses and decent water. Between the Akuinu and Salteaux rivers. Pretty easy to find a place to hunt there, that does not require that you check both ways with a mirror onna stick, before you step out in to the cutlines.

I used to bow and shotgun hunt in Strathcona county, but the guy who owned the land l hunted on died, and his kids subdivided for acreages. Have to go further afield now to avoid that. If I'm going to drive that far, I'll go west or north. - dan

hey I hunted back there in the 80's and early 90's pretty good hunting.

the last few years the area that I hunt had a big pack of wolves move in and the game population took a big hit so I've been checking out other areas I have not hunted for 20 - 30 years, might have to check out the Vega area again.

Oh and depending on how hot your wife is I may give away some of my hunting areas, if she's really hot and a good cook she can come out and take care of the camp :)

Thanks, I've already had one for years, went in a bow hunt 5 or more years ago, and left to come east again after my mother got sick, so under the 3 months, sadly I still need a hunter guide

I'm not sure what you mean by the 3 months comment.
Your current WIN card has probably expired, go to AlbertaRELM, renew it and change your address to your new Alberta one as your primary residence.
Far as I know there is no wait period now once you claim Alberta residence status and you can go hunt by yourself without any guide requirement.

Once you renew your WIN card online it is immediately active and can be used right now to apply for special hunting draws.
Timeline to apply for special license draws ends at midnight June 23, so if you hurry you can get in on them.

Without studying a bit you may not know what/where to apply for, so be it, just put in an application for every draw you can and 999 each application.
You will gain a priority point of 1 for draws by doing that before June 23 and earn a year right now.
Hunt this year with over the counter general licenses that don't require being drawn for a special license.

New Win card-$8
Wildlife certificate-$28.22
Draw applications-$3.68 each
