I relatively recently picked up a great little 21H in 7x57 with a mildly ground down butter knife bolt handle. After picking up a set of “High” Warne QD scope rings I have come to the disappointing realization I don’t have a scope in my inventory that will allow the bolt to clear the ocular.

Any guidance or a run down of scopes that would work would be greatly appreciated.

Ironically I’m also having issues scoping a .300 H&H, but for length reasons.

Have the bolt handle professionally redone (cut, weld, shape, inlet, heat treat, blue) by a skilled smith and you can mount any scope using low rings... finding your man to do that may be a bit difficult.

This isn't a great picture... sorry...

SuperCub, I have the bits and pieces on the way to correct my Length issue. I’ll hopefully have the H&H up and running next week.

At this point I’m just hoping to find a scope that I can make work, I had planned to take the Brno bear hunting in October and I have an excellent local Gunsmith but like all good craftsman he has a long line a head of me. Having the bolt reshaped may be my endgame.

What scope did you try on the BRNO? Maybe you can find another with a smaller ocular eye pc.

Congratulations on a great hunting rifle.
Tuck the factory original handle away for safe keeping and source a model 98 bolt that will headspace and have a handle fitted by a competent gunsmith. I had great luck with Warne QD high rings.

So far I’ve tried a pair of 2-7s Bushnell and Redfield. I’m going to test fit a scope or two tomorrow, with long bodies to see if I can move the ocular far enough back to let the bolt move freely.

My suspicions are that maybe some of the Leupold and Burris Compact and Ultralight scopes may work. But I’d like confirmation before I pick one up.

Warne at one time offered X-High rings which would solve my problem, but I haven’t had much luck finding a set.

A friend mentioned perhaps a 19mm to weaver adapter would gain me some height as well. But again I haven’t turned up any useful yet.

1.37" is pretty small. How did you arrive at that number?

I measured a couple Leupolds here. 1.5-5 was 1.560" and M8 4x was 1.531"

I have a 21 h in 8x57 and use the same mounts you have with a leupold 3x9 compact,kelly

I've a European tweaked 21.
They took some type to grinder ( my bet on a flapper style unit) and ground it to fit.
Mine has a 1" tube weaver on a Mauser Short side rail though...that might change things a bit too
