Hey, just wondering what suggestions anyone might have for dealing with upcoming 5 round mag limits.
I picked up a pro mag Enfield mag thinking it would be easier to modify as it already has a removable baseplate, but it's just garbage. Will not feed, mag follower catches, did not even fit in the rifle initially. Pretty disappointing. No use cutting it down if it won't even work as a 10 rounder. Hopefully I can eventually get it functional, but we'll see.
Anyway what constitutes permanently modified? Weld a plug in a 10 rounder? I though of maybe pouring an aluminum plug into the bottom. What about sks with a plug welded in. Are they sufficiently modified?
Presumably if you can't remove it, its permanent.
Anyway with 5 round mags being like hen's teeth, wondering what others are doing.
Cheers

Given the design of the Enfield mag, it's going to require a fair bit of tinkering, you can't just weld a piece of rod to the follower, due to the use of flat springs. That goes for denting/crimping the body as well. I know in the far east (Nova Scotia+New Brunswick) they've been using cut down mags, since they apparently haven't read the laws that are on the books now.

I was thinking a plug into the bottom of the mag and remove a leaf from the spring. Effectively blocking the bottom 3rd of the mag. Not a plug welded to the follower. Would be nice to preserve the appearance of the 10 shot mag.
Cheers

Or you could tell your MP that there are going to be a sh!t load of pizzed off farmers and hunters that used to vote for them that ain't gonna any more if this goes through. IMHO

There are tons and tons of 303s that get taken out once a year for deer that their owners don't even know what's coming down the pike. They could be a very big voice.

I, for one, am not going to do anything to my LE mags. Do you think that the RCMP are going to go door to door and check mag capacity? What difference does it make any more? If we comply with this bullsh!t law, another one comes along even worse. It's time to stop complying with meaningless, nonsense laws.

RCMP will say that various companies made five round magazines for Enfields, because there was a magazine restriction to use them as a hunting rifle in some jurisdiction's
That is why you used to see the five round magazines from the 50'/60's

For sure!! These is at least half dozen here - some models of Parker Hale sporters came with them - says "Made in England" across the bottom. Was also a fairly standard home gunsmith thing to make the rifle look more "svelte" - from the days when making a "sporter" from a milsurp - insert that long mag - use marker or scribe and follow around the metal opening - saw it off there, and braze or weld a new bottom - uses the regular standard full spring and mag follower. As far as the "permanent" thing - so take a short one and undo that weld or cut off the bottom - fabricate a piece of sheet metal - re-weld - is now a long one, again ...

how to deal with it ????

get off your a s s and start mailing , emailing , phoning , harrrasing your politicians ... all of them , and voice your displeasure ..... then vote conservative the next election , no other party has the ability to form government that is favorable to gun owners .

also get all your friends and relatives to also vote conservative and shame anyone voting liberal or ndp .....

I frickin give up.
Most of you deserve what you're gonna get.

Oh ffs. I didn't suggest we all start chopping up mags to comply with a law that isn't on the books yet, or just knuckle under and take what's coming. And yes if course make as much noise as possible in protest.
I asked what modification might be doable and legal in the event that a few months from now we can't use 10 shot mags. You guys don't want to comply if that happens, fill your boots. I don't like it but reality is we are likely facing that come fall.
So if I have to modify them, how to do it, that was my question, or at t least it's intent.

Why? Are you so eager to please your abusive government that you feel obligated to mess with your perfectly legal rifle long BEFORE any stupid and impossible to enforce law is being even introduced? You sure are special kind.

Of course not. I'm not 'eager to please' anyone. I'm not messing with anything yet. Just asking about it should it come about. I picked up a cheap mag with the idea it would be easier to do the mod to, but if the law doesn't change then I'll be leaving it as is.
But whatever, clearly its going nowhere. You can't ask a simple question without being accused of being a government lap dog then forget it.

Cheers
