Firearms transfer times.

Honest question: When I “check the status” of my transfer online, should I see something in progress? I don’t have any indication that any transfer has been initiated. Alberta purchased June 16. Thanks.

I spoke with someone yesterday at the Ontario CFO office and was told that there won't be anything related to restricted transfers on your online account page. The transfers are in the hands of each province's pile of untouched transfers from early June currently. I noticed this same thing also as I have 3 pending transfers from last month still in limbo

Sorry. I mean if you log into the RCMP firearms CFO site to check on the progress of your transfer.

Mine still says no transferee in progress. Updated 05-28

Curious if the lady on the phone confirmed that you had some in progress, what your online profile reads… three in progress or more or less.

I’m hoping I haven’t done something wrong with my application - hence the “no progress” status.

Thanks.

The RCMP website for my Individual Services does not show anything for transfers in progress. I think Eric24282 is correct, that dealer initiated transfers do not show up on the RCMP site.

I also renewed my RPAL recently and it did show it was processed and on its way, less than 2 weeks turnaround so that is good.

Maybe the license people should pitch in and help the registration people LOL...(kidding, I know each provinces CFO has to approve).

So when I logged in to the site, I didn't have any luck with identifying any transfers even though I have 3 in progress but I asked the lady to check each transfer by giving her the transfer# for each one and confirmed that everything is in order but they're all under the mountain of transfers that will take forever to get through

Over 30 days here in Nova Scotia - private transfer though... Just need to talk to someone over the phone to complete with my ref. number...

The word from a dealer in Ontario is Ontarion buyers need to wait 3M to 6M for clearance...Good luck, fellas.

I have 4 in the queue, from the smallest Ref# number bought on May 30, to the last one on July 4th, there are 75508 transfers in between....

If your calling turn your caller id off. I never got disconnected doing this and it rolled over into the next time zone when my area office would have normally disconnected at 5pm. Was on hold for 60min caught me off guard when the call went through to bc office i believe.

I have a bunch incoming, 4 private, 3 from dealers. I'm hoping I get a few of the transfers all at once.

2 of the dealers and 2 private are in my home province (AB), 1 from a dealer in SK, 1 private in NS, 1 private in ON.

The Sask dealer one was the 1st, June 14 I got the transfer number, so about 3 1/2 weeks so far.

I also have one that I sold to a guy in BC who can't get through at all, he's been trying(?) for 3+ weeks, also the private one in ON can't get through to initiate the transfer.

Yikes. Thanks Eric. That at least gives me reassurance that despite what the site reads, wheels may be turning behind the scenes.

And 3 - 6 months in ON? That’s bananas. I only wonder… Will Justin stop all “in progress” transfers once his gun law gets rubber stamped? Not that I don’t trust the man… but I don’t trust the man.

Normally it should be fine since the request is submitted before the freeze ... But as you say, they may come with special cancellation surprise ! (I wonder how they can make it legal though...)

Related to this topic, I have received information for Quebec in terms of delay. They are currently undergoing june 2nd transfer and they talk about MANY weeks of delay. Some other shop received a mail with a 3 months delay approximately.

This bring us close to the time limit ...

If you have a transfer number, in terms it means its transfered. So in theory, they will go through. I also read people going on rcmp site on their personal login to see if its been processed. Besides non restricted, you will not see anything for restricted.

"Reply to MICE in NS"

Try sending them an email regarding your private transfer, "reference number, serial number, caliber, barrel length, make model, number of shots, yes I approve of this transfer"... I'm sure it's still next to impossible to get through on the phone at your side of the country.

Call at 8:59am. Once you reach the right extension it will be 9:00 and you’ll be in queue. I waited 5 minutes and the transfer was approved 24 hours later.

So I tried at 8:59am... Does NOT work...
I tried at 8:58am "office is now closed".
Tried at 9:59am before Coffee breaks, Not answering.
Tried at 10:45 after Breaks, busy...
Tried at 11:45am Before lunch , busy...
Called at 1:30pm After lunch "call back again".
Called at 2:45 Before breaks...cut off after waiting 30 minutes.
Tried at 4:15pm, then 4:30, then 4:45...Busy.
On hold at 4:59, then dropped off the map,"office now closed"!!!
Ridiculous...Called 15 times, 30, 40, and 51 times in one day. On hold 6 times and all 6 calls "dropped"?
Most pathetic business I have ever engaged...CGN people better vote Liberals OUT the next time...

Huh? Vote Liberal? LOL

The solution is to charge for private transfers. Business to personal transfers incur tax, private transfers are done for free.

By charging for private transfers the government could pay for additional staff and resources. This would speed up all the transfers.

This is a solution, not just whining that the CFO is bad. You don't like it what are your ideas? Remember, apparently there are two people completing transfers in Ontario.

Just my $0.02.
