Picked up a used set of Promatic traps complete with two sets of Canterbury wireless release systems, two all steel scorers stands and associated gear plus a bunch of biodegradeable targets from a fellow whose father passed away and owned a two field trap set-up(same fellow I bought the Browning Recoilless from last winter).
Both machines are Promatics top of the line Signature ATA Doubles traps. They even came with a pair of transformers that you can plug into your standard household electrical outlet and convert the power to 12V to run the traps or they can be run wiyh 12V deep cycle batteries and he threw in an inverter, 3 batteries and solar panel for a solar charging system to run everything.
I spoke with a Promatic dealer and he is going to help me to sell one machine so I can get a set of Promatic Skeet machines from him to build us a combination trap/skeet range. Now to find a property, move our house and have our own private range in the back 40! :)

That was the easy part. Now to find a property where the neighbors won't complain about the noise and other things.
 
Your profile doesn't say where you live, but I can remove quite a few off provinces based off the idea that you think this is going to be possible.

Why do you say that?

You can get private ranges certified in all provinces. I've heard that personal ranges can be easier to get certified than club ranges.

If you are just shooting trap and skeet on your own property, what is there to certify ?

Here is the definition of a "shooting range"

“shooting range” means a place that is designed or
intended for the safe discharge, on a regular and structured
basis, of firearms for the purpose of target practice or
target shooting competitions.



"Shooting ranges" need to be approved. Interpret this as you see fit. If you shoot clays a couple of times a year on the north 40 with a hand thrower, I think you have a good case that your shooting is not regular or structured. If you have a built for purpose facility with permanent trap houses and a club house as the OP suggested and shoot twice a week for example, you are going to have a tough time convincing the CFO that this is not a shooting range.

Just because you own a property, it does not give you the right to conduct activities which impact on your neighbors enjoyment of their property. Nosie is the culprit here. I know of two clubs in AB that had to conduct extensive noise tests because neighbors complained about the noise from shotguns. In one case the neighbors were 6km away. In a third case, the proposed facility never got built due to concerns expressed by neighbors.

Not saying it can't be done, just might not be a slam dunk.
 
I'll be checking into it of course. I should rephrase the title to read my dream of owning my own trap and skeet fields, not ranges as I have ZERO intention of turning it into a club or range with memberships, registered shoots, etc. The point of having my own is to get away from that scenario. I have already spoken with a Pro-Matic dealer about moving one of the machines with a complete wireless voice release system included so I can use the $ from that sale to purchase a set of skeet machines and make myself a combination field. It will be nothing more than a combination trap/skeet field overlay made to both ATA & NSSA spec to practice at home on. I have several friends who have their own rifle backdrops on their land and they shoot on them each week without issue and did not need any range inspection or approvals etc. and have zero issues with neighbors complaining about noise. I am currently looking at a property situated between two farms that I hunt on and neither of those neighbors or the surrounding neighbors, also whose farms I hunt have any issue with me setting up the fields. One of them is a sporting clays shooter and waterfowl hunter himself and was quite happy to hear he may have spot to shoot some clays right next door!
