Why all the hate with 6.5 Creedmoor

One thing I’ve noticed is a a lot of the negativity come from those that come off sounding a bit more like hunters with guns rather than shooters that hunt. It’s only the hunting usage of it that really ever gets #### on. I totally see where a guys coming from when they say it won’t kill x animal any differently than x cartridge, but it never really was intended for that. Post 22 sums it up well. You can also take a look on any 375ruger thread archived here, same guys, same attitude. A lot of the buy a x from tradex guys. Bit of a mob mentality around here.

For most hunters the only advantage a 6.5 Creed has over a .308 or similar cartridge is that the Creed has less recoil. Most hunters don't really care about ballistic coefficient as they shoot their game within 300 yards maximum. So in their minds it offers no advantage so- no use for a new cartridge! :)

The other aspect is the "marketing hype." This is nothing new at all. Most cartridges have had marketing or military use or both. Even long before the internet was even dreamed of. The 270, 7RM, 300 WM, 300& 375 H&H, .243, etc etc had marketing hype and lots of it.

Mostly an ego and pride thing, so people can feel good about their opinions and purchases.
We all have preferences, and should be happy that we all have choices to choose from based on our individual needs and wants.
Be happy that others are out there enjoying the passion and heritage that we share with friends, family and fellow shooters and hunters, and may we all share a trail or campfire, and support one another in this pastime.
We have enough haters out there, we don't need to be tearing our fraternity down from within!

I'm a sucker for cartridge "marketing hype", that's why I have 3 6.5 Creedmoors, a 6.5 PRC, a 300 PRC, a 30 Nosler, etc, etc .... when in reality my trusted old 7mm-08 and 300 WM can do everything I really need! :)

I'm holding out for when the 6.5 C is offered in short magnum .

So a 6.5 prc then. Close to the performance of 264 win mag. Same long neck, fat powder column, reamed to close tolerances, and long leade for long high bc bullets.

Not sure if it's a short or 3006 length, but if the 3..4 ounces difference really matters, maybe another hobby.....

Not at all, he’s highlighting how we’ve all fell for the hype and marketing, if killing an animal is ones goal you could have settled with a 30-06 and be done with it. Dead’s dead right?

I shoot 6.5x55 Swede, 6.5x54 M-S and 6.5x57 Mauser. They are all good, so the 6.5 CM is probably good too.

I've owned exactly one 6.5 Creedmoor. It happens to be a Sig Cross. It's hilariously accurate and weighs like 7.5 pounds scoped. Shoots amazing and folds down short enough to fit in my frame backpack. I like it. That has more to do with the rifle than the cartridge though. I've yet to take it hunting but bought it for both sitting in a stand and setting it over bags at the range. In the latter role, it excels brilliantly. If my 6.5x55mm and .260 Rem experience is anything to go by then it'll take deer just as easily.

IMO a good hybrid cartridge for target shooting and deer and antelope sized game. I think it needs the right hybrid rifle to shine in the role, otherwise it doesn't really offer anything new. But it might be an easy button for some folks to get into long range shooting or hunting for recoil-sensitive shooters.

I’ve never owned one but how bad can it possibly be? It seems like a short action 270. It’s the only cartridge I can think of that went “ mainstream “ in my life time.

If you are hunting white tails it seems like a pretty good chambering. I can’t even imagine how many deer it has slain in the last 10 years.

Some interesting reports of elk hunting with it on here
