K11 vs K31

1 k11, 2 k31s, 1 G89, 1 G96/11, and 1 G11. That photo is a few years old, if I wanted to throw a wrench in your guessing I could now throw a G89/96 (not a 96/11) in there as well as a KG 97.

I missed a G89/96 about 2 years ago from Edelweiss arms in the US.It sold as I was filling out the order form! Missed it by minutes.

I would really like to find a 1900 short rifle or 1905 carbine some day, but otherwise the biggest dream Swiss gun I don’t own at the moment is a 1900 Swiss Luger.

The 89/96 is a civilian owned one as a military issued one would likely have been converted. Still haven’t shot it yet, maybe this summer I’ll give it a go. The K93s are pretty sweet little carbines but the front sight arrangement system is garbage. No good for accuracy as the sight can wiggle back and forth, all they would have had to do was machine it with a tapered screw.

Non-corrosive boxer primed match grade ammo. Just about the best ammo ever issued for a rifle. Excellent stuff!

The tiger striped one is my 1914 manufactured K11

where did you get the boxer primed GP 11 ammo from?
The GP 11 ammo I experienced was always Berdan primed.

It's excellent brass too! I don't reload for it anymore since I ran into cases of GP11 for cheap but still have 1000 Bredan primers that shot amazing groups with my K31 and 168gr Sierra TMK's.

My 31 is a touch smoother, but accuracy is similar....no numbers for you......sorry. Another similar rifle to consider is the Steyr M95. Also awesome straight pull rifles.

I have shot an assortment of Swiss arms. My preference is the K11 over the K31. Smoother cycling and had a nicer trigger. The K11 is about 3 inches shorter and is quite handy. The K31 is stronger, but it doesn't matter unless you're rebarreling to 300 WM. Sight radius was not a big issue for me. The K31 has serious cool factor and is a worthy investment.

Bringing an old thread back to life. Just received my first Swiss rifle, a K11 from CSC. It was listed as "Rack Grade" and they didn't lie. The safety ring and the trigger guard are both pretty badly rusted. I guess it's a Winter project now for me. I assume some light oil, elbow grease, and some steel wool should clean it up. I'm hoping Cold Blue will bring them back to life

Is there a source for reproduction clips for these rifles? I remember Corwin Arms used to have some, but since they closed up shop I haven't seen any

Can’t you replace the front sight with one compatible for 100 m. Wldnt the drop only be 6 inches at 100? U cld do a 6 oclock hold.

Same question. Are taller front sights available?

Old thread, I know. I also prefer the handling of the K11, but prefer the sights of the K31. Just easier to hit what you’re aiming at. The 1889 is one of my favourites.

I’ve owned all the Swiss rifles, at least 2 of every model, some of them 6x…, except the 1900 and the zfk55. The M93 is cool and rare (had 2), but not a great rifle imo. The zfk31/42 has GARBAGE optics… better off with irons, again imo…. I really would’ve liked a zfk55, but the price and availability keeps me away.

Honestly, I prefer the Swedish mausers over the Swiss straight pulls anyway. Only have a couple K31s and a K11 left. Should’ve kept my last G1889, (mint mint mint), but wanted more hunting rifles, which I use more anyway.

Honestly, if you handload, go for an 1889, if you don’t, just buy a K31 or a K11 and get a taller front sight post.

YMMV

I've got both . I'd be hard pressed to choose between them to be honest . They're both accurate , solid rifles . I tend to lean towards the K11 a little bit , for absolutely no good reason , I just do .

I spent a couple hours yesterday sanding away the worst of the rust (trigger guard and trigger were the worst, followed by the buttplate). They are back to bare metal and just have a coat of oil on them for now. I thought I had a bottle of Cold Blue, but I was mistaken so I'll pick one up in the next few weeks. I assume the trigger guard and buttplate were originally blued? I can see from the trigger that was inside the stock that it was originally blued, but the other parts were so far gone I couldn't tell

I took the advice of Diopter above and ordered a 100m front site. I wished they had in stock a new bolt knob as mine is split right in half. I tried searching for a replacement, and couldn't find anything in Canada (Numrich had them). When I am finished with my trade school in 2 months and I'm back to work I think I might ask one of the machinists at work to make me a new bolt knob out of something like brass
