Reloading works out to about a buck a round unless you use premium bullets - store bought is now close to 4 bucks a round and factory ammo is generally loaded way down so it won’t blow up older guns - if you are shooting a marlin for example you will probably want to reload to get full potential

The past. Tenda had s&b for 279/200 free ship before the pandemic. Loaded up on that as it was cheaper than buying the components. Will definitely be reloading at the current eye watering prices.
You may luck out and find some winchester at unchanged prices at some Canadian tires, but it's still 50 ish/box
Depending on what you plan on using it for, most any factory offerings will work fine, but if you want to see what the real potential the 45-70 has then reloading is where it's at with hard cast gas check flat nose 405grain bullets. The cheapest LEE press and a set of dies will get you up and running.
Although I have a whole gun room full of reloading equipment I find I enjoy using the lee loader when making my 45-70 loads....i use a 405 hard cast from bullet barn and either a plinking load of 13gr red dot (1080 fps)or a hunting load using 48.5gr of IMR 3031 with the same hard cast at just under 1650fps out of my 16" barrel. I havent bought bullets or powder in a couple years as I have lots of stock but my current load cost is $0.45/round for the red dot load and $0.80/ round. My brass is ammortized at 25-30 loadings which is easily done at these pressures.
The lee loader can be had for under 100$ so it's a very economical system... prices will not reflect current components cost and I already have a good stock of brass.

I buy Hornady Lever Evo 325g whenever I find it, but I don't clean out the store. I'm not that guy. Sitting on about 15 boxes and 48 brass. Reloading is in my future I just don't know when.
Canadian Tire and LGS is where I've been finding it, but I travel all over BC so I find "gold" quite often.
