HiPower to be Replaced by Sig 320

A huge mistake! The FBI rejected the sig p320 for good reasons. Shoulda bought the FBI gen5 Glock 17.
Oooppps! Another STUPID LIBERAL mistake.

The CAF will most likely get the M17 with the manual safety and not the safety-less P320.

Like it or not, a manual safety makes a ton of sense when pistols have a habit of being stuffed in tac vest magazine pouches, pockets, and non-standard holsters. Seen it, done it. Not too mention, most will be issued to folks like officers, who handle weapons the least. The trigger safety on a Glock doesn't cut it unfortunately.

Not sure why you think the Liberal Government has anything to do with the decision to buy a Sig vs a Glock. Seriously. It's a sidearm not a next generation fighter plane or frigate.

Hatman as soon as I heard of the choice I wondered how long it would take for a Glock fanboy would chime in. Congrats on being the first.

This was the best choice possible. Fully tested by the most active and best trained Armed Forces in the world. The drop tested failure was addressed years ago.

Good on the CAF to leave politics aside and buy the best service Pistol in the world. Let's see if the RCMP move to the 320 over the expected M&P Gen 2 fs.

Is there an official government announcement for this?

there was a news release. I particularly liked the irony with this quote:

".... supporting economic opportunities for the Canadian defence industry.”...

Sig P320's are being shot a ton in IPSC without any reported issues or failures. Had plenty of issues with Glock Gen 5's, trigger pins walking out and eroded breech faces (maybe poor hardening, they are no-longer tenifer finished).

It will be a good gun for them. JTF-2 just went back to it as well.

FWIW, I think the CF should just tag onto the US Army order for SIGs at something like $225 each.

That's not how our government works...
They need to buy the license to make them first, then give CZ/COLT Canada the contract to make them at $20,000 a piece.

Yay new pistol…

At the rate people are going out, everybody will get 2 by the time they hit the milk crates in the vaults :)

Cool, my extorted tax dollars are buying guns for the government that I am not allowed to buy...

Wicked...

Maybe we can get a good look as the gun confiscation units roll through the burbs...

Super excited for them...

The M17 is not fully tested. The 2 finalists for the MHS trials (Sig and Glock) are supposed to go through a final endurance test of something like 22,000 rounds. The US Army ended the final test before it started without providing a reason.

Though it is commonly assumed by industry experts that it boiled down to money, since Sig offered the best value by partnering with Winchester to not just supply the guns and accessories, but also the ammo as the whole package.

Not saying the M17 is a bad gun (shot it before, enjoyed it, and also have a P320 AXG that I love) or the G19X is necessarily better, but do want to point out that the M17 is almost certainly a very reliable and functional gun but not as thoroughly vetted as some people believe.

Tamlin I think you would agree that having been in service now for a few years the amount if rounds down range has surpassed any amount used or required in testing. For the Canadian Forces to choose any other Pistol now would have made non
sense. The US, Denmark, & Australia all came to the same solution.

there is more than one pistol available on the market for the military and that has been selected by more than one too ... can we say and you admit that you re a sigfan ...? like there is glock fans ...

Too many experts here, IPSC & SF types for my $.02 to mean anything , but I'm just glad they bought something "new" & not used, & this is a real "feather in her cap" for the DND minister .
