I have recovered exactly one Barnes projectile, it looked just like that. Seems they rarely fail to go in one side and out the other though.

I dropped a huge cow elk like 500+ lbs with a 168ttsx, altho I was able to get a shot from like 40 yards but still

So it failed to penetrate without hitting any bone.

They are generally a decent bullet, but like any other, failure happens.
Below are a couple dug out of game that had to be shot again [and again]
to anchor. I would not pick a TTSX if I expected a longer shot. [450+] Dave

Moose make great bullet stoppers. I've recovered Barnes TSX, TTSX and LRX from moose that I shot with a 7mm Rem Mag, .300WSM, .35 Whelen and .375 Ruger.

I recovered a few barns tsx and TTSX over the years shot from my different 30-06 I’d say up to 180m! All moose where dead….

Haven’t looked for bullets in moose in over 20 years. Bang flop is all I need to know. BTSP Hornady the last 40 years.

But why would you even try shooting at an animal at 400 yards ? Your out hunting so try doing some of that hunting stuff like getting in close to your game ? calling your game in to you ? Why do people think long range benchrest shooting and hunting are the same things ? I have never in my life had to take a shot past 200 yards I mean are you sitting in your truck shooting out the window or why can't you get closer ?
