Cases ejecting

So recently at the range with my Para Ordnance 16/40. Never had this issue before but why all of a sudden are the ejected cases coming straight back and hitting me directly in the forehead and glasses. Is it a matter of adjusting a load or is it more of an extractor issue or combination of both. Never had this issue before. It shoots fine but cases in the face makes it un- enjoyable .

Check your ejector that it’s staked in properly and not loose or broken. Sounds more like an ejection issue than extractor.

A broken ejector issue arises from slapping your magazines in a bit too assertively. I have this habit myself.
The left magazine lip comes mighty close to and at times in contact with the ejector and eventually breaks the ejector off. I had this issue with an XD40. In comparison to the new ejector Springfield sent me a few for free, I immediately noticed the new one was noticeably narrower.

If the ejector has indeed broken off, you might want to inspect the clearance between the ejector and your mag lip at extreme insertion. Might just be one magazine. Your magazine feed lips may have migrated in height from long use and now contacting the bottom of the ejector.
Are you using aftermarket magazines?

I second that, not an extractor issue or load. The angle the brass is exiting is dictated by the ejector

Trying to get the extractor out but having a ##### of a time. Is there a trick to this? My 45 extractor is straight forward.

Press the extractor’s hook to allow it to get into the channel freely. I still think the problem is with your ejector.

Does that little button need to be depressed? Seems stuck where it is and can't get it to move further. Don't want to scratch things up.

Just figured it out. The 80's series button had to come out before the extractor could come out. All cleaned up and it looks fine so what should I be looking for?

What am I missing? Extractor/ejector? I thought they are one and the same. Can someone explain the difference? Sorry for sounding stupid.
Edit...just YouTube'd it. Not sure how it works on the particular pistol. Trained 3 different mags in the gun and they all seat the same from what looks like the ejector.

Extractor pulls the cases out of the chamber. Ejector directs the cases out of the ejection port.

From your photos, the ejector seems intact. Check if it’s loose.

Take a close look at the extractor if it is chipped.

If you’re experiencing an erratic ejection consistently on the last round only, it may be a magazine problem.
If an empty case is slightly out of position when the ejector strikes it, the case may come back toward the shooter instead of off to the right rear of the shooter. This may happen if the ejector is loose as well.
ie. Damaged follower, damaged mag spring, or improper magazine assembly.

Does it happen with all your mags, or just one?

I'll check the ejector more closely in the morning now that I know what to look for. It's happening with every round and with 2 mags I had with me. Both mags stop the same distance from the ejector far as I can tell.

The issue also may be aggravated by the slide speed based on the ammunition used. If you have an opportunity to try different recoil springs you can measure the ejection distance. If the spring is to strong for the load, as many factory springs are, the brass will land close by within a couple of feet. Moving a step at a time to a weaker spring will increase the ejection distance and ultimate angle. Worth a try possibly.

Good to know. Will try to get some springs this week. I believe the original is still in this one and it feels like a 20-24 lb spring. Definitely has some tension to it. It's really hard to rack the slide.
