IN-STOCK: All-New TYPE 81 SR

Well as simple as I wanted to makes this all I did in preventative measure was put a simple 1" brass wood screw thru the perfect fit hole just behind the recoil spring:

I'm more then confident now this will take any unnecessary stress or flex off of those 2 bottom roll pins.

Was this unnecessary, YES. Should we have to do anything like this, NO.
This was an oversight on TI and the designers. Nit their fault but hopefully everyone who purchased these rifles will
A) either get a replacement stock JIC
or
B) they have a remedy from the factory for all of us buyers.

Until then I'll continue to play with and use this rifle without any worry

Did you pre-drill the stock? Or just drive the screw in?

When I was wondering about the connection a few weeks ago, I was thinking they probably had a bolt going through just like that B-files. threaded into an insert in the receiver, and then another bolt up through the pistol grip also threaded into the receiver.... never would have guessed they did it the way they did.

It's a bit surprising they didn't throw a screw in there like B-files is suggesting from the get go as it's a cheap and easy "improvement".

This is pretty much exactly what I was thinking/posting about earlier. (Although I posted a barely half-formed thought.) A higher contact point that's in line with the recoil should definitely help keeping the stock from twisting and breaking. (Er, I hope...)

Shouldn't have to be done, but I'm thinking better to do it first than deal with a broken stock later.

thank you for that simple solution. did you add some product to fill and hold the brass screw?

I did mine.

Pre-drilled, then I used a zinc screw with a slightly smaller head then bfiles.

My problem is; not much of the screw is making contact with the receiver.

I could use a bigger screw but then it’d interfere with the top-cover.

Time will tell.

Maybe I’ll find a square washer to put in between

Ya thats why I used a larger head and made sure it was contacting the reciever but use it and see. Not like you can't take it put and use a larger one

I would use the screw and Titebond III. You will not be able to get that stuff out again, which is of course a problem for people who want to disassemble it.

Okay.

Not satisfied with “well enough” I took a trip to the hardware store and bought some tiny washers to try. I ended up using a 4mm flat washer.

When I put the washer under my 1 inch zinc wood screw the washer deformed nicely to the receiver; the wood stock and the receiver are locked well together at the top of the stock now.

I applied Gorilla glue to the threads and tightened it gingerly making sure not to pull any wood. The washer did not allow the receiver cover to sit back in the rear notch of the receiver, so I used a Dremel to flatten out the top part of the washer a bit, and I also used the Dremel to notch the receiver cover ever so slightly at the back.

A couple trial fits and they mated perfectly, and no modification is noticeable from the outside of the rifle.

A dab of cold-blue and it looks factory.

I’m quite pleased with it.

Sounds solid. I was thinking the same but I didn't want to start dremeling the dust cover just yet but very good idea for sure. Snap some pics for us to see how it turned out

I threw out my packaging and stuff already, no cracked stock after inspecting it. I hope, that it if does crack, TI honours my purchase. Disappointed with what TI sold us!!

They already stated in the other dumpster fire thread that they will replace full rifles to anyone who's stock breaks

Great idea! That was some smart thinking
When I get mine in I will do the same
