2022 Waterfowl thread

I left work today and almost ran into a couple dozen of them just strolling across the on ramp to the highway.
Crazy that I never see any out in the woods though... sigh.

Out in new blind to get some ducks and guess who decided to show up….Thesse Will make awesome jerky.

We figure it’s still too hot do the migration to start here in NB, green wing teal are still around.

Definitely no migrating black ducks down here on the coast. Barely any residents.

Rough week at work so I knocked off the day and took the yak for a solo hunt on public land.

Nice job guys.
We have a lot of lessers around, but no ducks and only a few big honkers. They are not currently feeding in my area.
It is just too warm in the north to get the migration going.
We also need rain. Most of the duck ponds and sloughs are very low or dry.

This could be the reason why? Not exactly goose habitat..

Seems like it's not goose, duck, wild turkey, rabbit, grouse, or any other huntable game habitat.
I'm done hunting this area, such a waste of time and energy.
Almost rolled my quad on a steep muddy hill trying to get back. Was driven out by some sloppy "hunters" just randomly shooting at trees and the water without even considering someone else may be there trying to hunt. I fired a round in the air and it stopped... and that was the only shot I took in a bit over 6 hours of hunting. I did see one bird, which I scared off while doing my spread but I wasn't ready to shoot (gun and ammo still packed). No other sightings otherwise.
I need to make friends with some farmers...

Went out the other day and got a duck. Wasnt out long but that one was the only thing i saw within a few hundred yards. Geese were flying around but nothing near the bay i was in. Maybe it was more of an evening spot. Saw a few small groups of ducks flying on my way in further down the river. 1 for 1 though and i didnt break anything or lose anything so it was a good outing lol

If you were in a bay on the big water, very much likely an evening spot when they come back to roost. How did you cook it? I have a couple woodies brining right now, going to make maple pan seared breasts and all the hearts this evening. My kids devour the hearts.

I thought as much since it was such a nice protected area how could nothing be here! Lol i will try to get back to the same spot for an evening hunt. It has a boat launch fairly close by.
I seasoned it with celery salt and pepper, seared it with a bit of garlic and onions, added a bit of honey mustard and maple syrup and finished it off in the oven. My wife didnt like it but my 8 yrd old daughter and I loved it.

53izzy744, nice Black duck that is a true waterfowling trophy.
Darryl

I see now you are only allowed 2 here in the southern district. Good thing it was the only one, i honestly thought it was a female mallard when i pulled the trigger!

Two hunts today. Morning ducks and afternoon snows. Our plan A for snows fell through when the farmer's crew moved cattle into a field holding over 10,000 snows so had to resort to plan B which was another field a few miles west holding about 1000. But snows are snows, they don't come easy but we managed a few.
