Getting stuck with a handgun you don't want?
I'll be the first to admit it, one of my last-minute purchases is not what I wanted.
unfortunately, it looks like I'm stuck with it!
I'm wondering if anyone else is in the same boat?

so when I sat back and thought about which guns (or calibre) I wanted to add to my collection before the end one gun that popped into my head was a 44 mag.

so I looked around, found a nice Smith and Wesson combat 44 and picked it up.
i assumed it would be similar to my Ruger GP 357 mag or even my Ruger SP101 but it is far from it.
i immediately noticed it was not a metal gun but rather some super light alloy(??)
I wanted something beefy.
did some more looking around and realized I should have picked up a Ruger Redhalk or a a S&W big metal one.

so I was stuck, do I try to sell it off quickly and then scramble to try to find something I want?
is there anything in the country I want?
prices are crazy high....
and boom, the deadline hit and I didn't do anything and now I'm stuck with a pistol I don't particularly care for.

grrrrrrr, it's not a dud of a pistol, it reminds me of my dads S&W TR8.
it just wasn't what I was wanting.
silly ass changes.

just angers me thinking that this $1400 revolver will probably sit in my safe forever with 20 rounds fired through it.

Maybe you will just be a chapter in it's journey? With the looming apocalypse and all, that .44 may save lives some day.
 
I ended up with a Glock 17 I don’t really want. I already had one but my brother in law got me to grab one for him before they were all sold out. He was waiting for his RPAL to go through and we had hoped we could get it into his name before the freeze came in. Everything took longer than we anticipated so now I have two identical Glock 17s. Really not that big a deal, but it’s $800 out of my gun/shooting budget that I could have used for something else.

I have to do a little more reading on things but I’ve seen it mentioned that there’s a way for RPAL holders to borrow pistols from each other. So that might be an option once his license is approved.

You just lend him the reg. slip along with the pistol. It can be an indefinite thing so long as the goal posts remain static. Have him rent it off you indefinitely for $800.
 
I bought several Heritage Rough Riders & several Ruger Wranglers...

Only the ONE Heritage Rough Rider arrived b4 the 'freeze' & I transferred it to my wife the day before the 'freeze'...

Fun little revolver, especially with the 22WMR cylinder!

Now, once the rest of the Rough Riders & Wranglers get here, I'll compare... And if the 'freeze' wasn't in effect I might have flipped some of them...

No sympathy for the flippers that were gouging people for $$$.
Having them get stuck with guns they don't want or bought on credit that they can't afford that they intended to flip is the only part of this whole ban that makes me smile
 
Not sure what s&w model the op got, a model number would help. That said, all s&w .44's currently made have the same basic frame. A gunsmith can cha ge the barrel out for a chunkier barrel, assuming you have an N frame, a 629 barrel would fit.

You can't sell it, that's all over. Yours until laws change - if they ever change.

Ha ha somewhat agree, but in a modern free capitalistic society, buying to resell at a profit is part of what it takes to make a living. Remember it is not the flippers who created this. They just had enough business sense to try and play and take advantage of a crisis market. Like most businesses there will be some who get caught with an inventory they did not want but it is part of the risk they took in playing the game.

The real losers will be the ones who panicked and bought at any price. Like 2022 home buyers in the GTA who took the risk on a million dollar investment which is now worth 75% of the price paid. They played an open market but were crippled by the policy changes and actions of their own government who is meant to serve ALL.
 
We are all in that boat. I have 20k plus in handguns alone. I am getting on in years and have severe arthritis in my hands. I can’t sell them. They want you to turn them in but have never mentioned compensation. So we are all stuck with them in the end. I sm fortunate that I have been buying and weeding out handguns for nearly 50 years and have gotten to the stage that I can say I haven’t got a single handgun I don’t want. I have done more than my share of impulse buying though
 
There is still may be an opportunity to move a large caliber handgun, those with an ATC are exempt in the latest law. Although it may be difficult for buyer and sell to connect, seems like nobody is advertising handguns EE included?
 
Impulse bought a Canik Rival regular version based on some internet reviews when it became available during the panic when everything was flying off the shelves, only to have the 'dark side' version show up the day after I bought it. Really wanted the dark side version instead, but too much effort and bad faith to cancel orders during the rush, so that was an immediate regret. I suspect I'll hate the gold accents. Need to figure out how to blacken them without spending too much money or making it look worse. That one might end up getting lost in the back of the safe, but I won't know until I see it in person.

If things remain the same and you shoot a fair amount you may be happy you have the extra 17 in the years to come.
 
Look at it this way. You got a. 44. I didn't. Just enjoy it for what it is and perhaps one, when the Turd finally gets flushed, you can get rid of it for something you want.

I ended up buying two very similar Not-a -Glock Glock 19s. I was hoping to see which one I liked better and then put the other on the EE. Oh well. I am interested in learning more about the ATC exemption and what that will leave for EE usage.
Hopefully this is just a bad dream that we will wake from soon.

Dream will turn into a coma.
 
I don't consider anything currently in my possession/that I own to be stuck with.

There are even several that could be stripped down to bare frames & parts kits sold off to recoup funds if I so desired.

But for now I'll just continue to enjoy what I've managed to collect in ~ 40 yrs of handgun ownership.

As far as I'm concerned the only thing frozen is the Turd's brain.

The only gun I wish I could have sold and was planning on posting on Oct 21 until they announced the ban. Was a GSG 1911 because I bought an Sig P226 Classic 22LR and didn’t really need the GSG anymore. Otherwise I’m very happy with the collection I have now.
