Do I shoot this deer in 2022 or pass and try and get him next year? I'm estimating him at 5.5 years old 265 pounds 162 inches gross typical or 166 inches gross non-typical. This is his second year coming in. He comes in late and when he does, the other big buck that comes in early disappears. What do you guys think? Does he have potential to break 170 inches and make the book? I figure he jumped 9 inches this year when compared to 2021 when he was a 5x4 mid 150 class deer. This is private land Saskatchewan and surrounded by wildlife lands and big pasture but I believe he has a narrow home range and it includes mine and my neighbors property who does not hunt.
This is him in 2021
This is the deer who has been displaced by the one pictured above. I've decided to pass him as I think he could benefit from another year. He is likely a 4 or 5 year old and mid 150's class 5x5 250-260 pounds. He was a mid 140 class 5x4 in 2021. I have homed in on this bucks range and currently am setup in his territory.
