The 222 Remington Magnum

A great day to be a Remington!

Poor Foxes.

You’ll be happy to know I passed up a fox after I had two. But found a big male badger on the way out for the varminting trifecta.

Dayum you sure can stack em up. Looks like a lot of fun!

Always been interested in the 222 RM. didn’t realize it was another 2 grains over the 223Ai it must pack the mustard for sure.

I think with light bullets the difference between the 222 Rem, 223 Rem, 223 AI and 222 RM is 150 fps. The problem (or benefit) is that it’s pretty easy to run up the pressure in all these cases without really wrecking the brass. Pressures above 65k in a good action seem to go unnoticed... for now anyways.

I have a 222 Rem Mag on a '68 M700 frankenstein rifle, it has a custom Benchmark 1-9" barrel, trigger tech trigger, a bolt from a different M700 and a GreyBoe Precision stock. I inherited this project gun from a friend that started it and then got tired of waiting for it at the gunsmith so he sold it to me--me not knowing the mess I was getting into. It has turned out to be a decent rifle, shoots sub MOA with everything so far, so maybe I will take it out for some coyotes hunting this winter.

Here’s my 222 mag. An early 60’s Browning. Haven’t hunted it yet, just picked it up in the spring. I know the original owner and used to shoot it as a kid off the bench. It’s inherently accurate.

.222 Rem. Mag. had so much potential but was dealt a bad hand that led to a hard life. First it got killed off by the .223 Rem. and now it will forever be remembered not for the great cartridge it could have been in itself but as the cartridge that spawned one of the greatest varmint cartridges of all time, yes the .204 Ruger.

I have owned a .222 MAG for many years. Similar to the .223 Rem. My gun is a Steyr Model SL Varvint.
Accurate & kille several Yotes @ 300 yds.
