What's your go-to grouse hunting setup?

The parts inside a Jubilee, Jubilee Prestige, SXL600 and Milano are identical as are the barrels. I have had them each apart many times on my bench. FAIR has state of the art CNC machining that can spit out any part quicker and cheaper than any person could make by hand. It would make no sense to farm out parts when you have invested millions in machinery. There is a video online with a factory tour put out by American Outdoors. The working parts are cut a dozen at a time.

I seem to remember someone here having a CZ Turkish shotgun that required a new part and CZ told him they cannot get the part. Can’t remember what part it was but you would think some of the Turkish guns would use similar if not the same parts and you would think a company like CZ would be more helpful seeing as they sell the Turkish guns.

I use either my Remington model 24 in 22 short or my small Belgian 410. It's a single-shot called 'Lil Gem and is probably lighter than the 22 by quite a bit. Problem is it uses 2" 410 so I have to make those (actually they come out around 1.5" per ingredients with a roll crimp). These are so light and fun to shoot.......great for just wandering about on old roads and trails.

There are multipul Fausti, Rizzini ,Fair gun companys two that make low end guns that use Turkish components.. All my research was done on line and is not cast in stone.

Used a CZ Ringneck in 20ga for the last 10 yrs or so, very happy with it, use it for walking duck ponds too, used it a few times on early season geese as well.
This year I took out a Browning, new version T-bolt .22, has a Weaver 2-10 on it. Was very pleased with it's performance using old Imperial hollowpoints I'd bought about 30 yrs ago.

20g Cooey that belonged to my grandfather. The first shotgun I ever shot.

Is it the best way to kill grouse? No. Will I ever shoot a flushed bird that took me by surprise? No (due to the hammer). Will I ever get a double or triple with it? No (lol). Does any of that matter when its "grandpa's gun"? Again, no.

I have mainly used my .45 cal flintlock long rifle for grouse (head shots) but am planning to do some wing shooting now that I have a 20 ga SXS coming. I want to teach the grandkids to wing shoot grouse and have a Cooey single shot that my Dad gave me 40 years ago that I am planning to shorten the LOP to be suitable for the kids. In fact, they are coming over today and I am going to measure up the oldest (11YO) and maybe cut it down from the current 14" to fit him. Then it would work for him and his next youngest brother (9YO) and by the time he had=s out grown it his next brother then sister will be shooting it. I have used one of my vintage 12GA SXS with BP cartridges years ago and my 20gs SXS flint before but my rifle has been my main grouse tool.

The last grouse I took was just after season opened this year. I had a 12g (because that's the only gauge I own!) but it was an unexpected hunt that caught me off guard. Just arrived at buddy's property and was unpacking when a dumb little bugger came out of the woods and across the trail next to my shed. shotgun was still in the truck so I grabbed my Crosman 1322 (had it over 40 years and just put new seals in) as the little chicken strutted of into the woods. Stalked it about 50 feet while pumping away and drew a bead waiting for him to get clear of some shrubs and POP! Bird down, quick stomp and had him breaded and on a bun within 45 minutes.

Is that a thing??

Yes its called Brining. Some people do salt water, some do salt and sugar. It pushes the blood out of the meat and tenderizes it. Another method is to boil the meat for 5 minutes with ginger, garlic, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and bay leaf. Then dump it out and cook as normal. This method pushes out the blood and gives the meat a very pleasing aroma and taste.

Don't ask me, my wife doesn't like them. Says they are dry and boring. She likes waterfowl.

I used to use a .22, but missed too much so used mostly an old Cooey single shot 410 though I have an Ithaca 20 gauge pump but all I ever shot with that was a pheasant.
