I am thinking for picking up a 6.5 Grendel but I am looking to hear some real world experience from guy who hunt with one, especially for deer size game.

Have shot mule deer at ranges up to 450 yards with 6.5 Grendel. All 4 were 1 shot kills using 123 gr Amax bullets. Not sure I would try much further and needless to say bullet placement is a huge factor.

check out the 6.5 grendel forum, lots of info there. I love the caliber and have a cz 527, gun shoots half inch groups and is just darn pretty. Factory ammo is limited but 123gr eldM is a good bullet if you avoid the shoulders. Ive killed a few deer with it and its my main carry gun for deer and predators to 400yds.

Sounds like from what I read it will do everything I am looking for. Right now I hunt deer with my 44 mag or this year I have been hunting with a 300 blackout. But both calibers a very limited on range. I hunt mostly in the brush so the limited range is normaly not an issue but a few times each deee season I spend a few days sitting in the fields and I am looking for a small compact light recoiling caliber that can reach out past 100 yards with ease. I also like things that are a little less mainstream, hence the 44 and 300 blk.

Had a CZ527 rebarrelled from 7.62x39 to 6.5 Grendel by the boys at Alberta Tactical. 16" medium weight IBI, shoots .5 MOA if I do my part. Light weight, accurate and just a nice little shooter. What else can a guy need?

seen a post about 762 taken elks... now the .65grendel is offspring... should almost do the same :)

No on a more serious note. i recently went a 762x39 for the deers, researching was telling me from people using the rounds- that the 6.5 is a bit faster, bit flatter an just as capable at 300meters for deer..

ive not shot game but shot the round in a howa mini, cool cartridge... in your situation , im not sure why youre waiting :)

I shot the 6.5 Grendel extensively out to 600 on the range, built a couple 527s in it. It’s an absolute sweetheart of a round, one of my favourites to shoot. It’s no powerhouse, but that’s part of its appeal. It carries energy well down range, albeit starting with modest amounts to begin with… again part of its appeal.

It’ll make .300Blk and the .44 seem pretty limited in direct comparison.

Nothing bigger than deer. It has a lot less recoil than a 308 for example and it is much slimmer, therefore less drop at farther distances.

I have a Howa Mini 1500 in 6.5 Grendel with the 22 inch sporter barrel I’m just fitting up a New Carbon Fibre stock and Jared trigger . I have a Elite 3500 4-12 scope DOA600 mounted in Talleys .
I have shot this rifle quite a bit with bullets rangeing from 85 gr to 130 gr .It’s pretty accurate and I really like shooting it ! I plan to try and shoot a white tail here in BC before the season ending on the 10 th . I have a good load with 120 gr Speer Gold Dot bullets at 2550 fps . Rifle weight is 6 lbs even with the mag in it .pretty Nice carry rifle . RJ

I picked up a CZ for my daughter to start practicing with before she turns 12 and starts hunting. We put a 3-9 Vortex on it and she enjoys shooting it. I took a deer with it last fall, no issue. Recoil, hardly. It’s a pleasure to carry around and for an adult I’d say that it isn’t noticeable to carry or standing scope a target with. Ammo is the only downside. Had to get both mag lips cleaned up a little because they were tight on the cartridge, that’s more of a CZ complaint.

We have hunted exclusively with 6.5 Grendel for 5 seasons now. 14 big game and 1 wolf. 10-420 yards. Moose, bighorn sheep, mule deer, whitetails and a few black bear. Average shot distance 163 yards and average recovered distance 13 yards. Hornady black factory ammo for all of it. 6 kills by my kids and 9 by myself. Haven’t lost anything, haven’t overnighted anything, walked up to everything right after. Great little cartridge and ammo combo. Watch most of it in the scope also.

yup on the eld-m, give em a try, they work awesome at Grendel velocities, seen a few guys unhappy with 123 sst on 6.5 forum and then try eld-m and won't go back to sst, haven't seen guys do it the other way round

I have seen Barnes made a Grendel specific 115gr hunting bullet similar to their 300 blk 110/120gr hunting bullets I would like to find some to give them a try

yup, I picked some up but not sure why, I guess saw them in stock and thought it was a good idea, don't like the numbers on them and have seen they don't open up as well as suggested and less hot of a charge, they are shorter in oal than eld-m and crimped as well, be a dandy 0-250 yard I suspect, I'll try and find the expansion thread I saw where guy tested them... found it https://www.65grendel.com/forum/showthread.php?22023-Barnes-115-gr-TAC-TX-Gel-results&highlight=115+gr+barnes

Are most of you guys reloading for this caliber? Seems like factory ammo is a little hard to find, not saying impossible but hard.

I shoot factory. I will go on runs of stocking up on cases so I don’t have to think about it for 5-10 years minimum. I stocked up on cases early when $32-33/box. In case anyone hasn’t noticed in past 15 years the scarcity cycling is a repeating and full time process so not sure why or how anyone could hope to survive off a couple boxes of shells and expect them to be on the shelf next time they need some? Anyhow, ammo budget needs to be equal to rifle and scope budget imo. If I reloaded I probably wouldn’t need to worry as much and just do similar on stock for those components to have ability to do 1000 rounds minimum at any given time.

Thanks for the posts Blakeyboy! Makes me more comfy about hunting with mine,
Will miss this year's hunting, but will give me more time too get a chassis for mine and shoot it more! I going to use the eld m too, bought a couple cases of loaded ammo , got some projectiles also and going too try the tac TX also. Thanks again for the posts!
