Lets design ANOTHER chassis for the Norinco Scorpio

That should look good. I didn't use anything fancy for mine seeing how it was my first try at building a stock, but if I were to do it over I'd go with a decent chunk of wood instead of just the birch I had on hand.

Your stock is great and shot really well. I like the lighter colour of this wood

Spent almost 5 hrs on it today after a 5hr grouse hunt. I decided to go all hand tools on this. I run a cnc up to 50hrs a week and have no real desire to hear it run on my one week of vacation.

All the inletting was done with a 1/8,3/8, and 1" chisel. Used a socket with 80gr to smooth out the top two channels. Flattened and established a square flat face with a hand plane. Japenese pull saw for rough cuts.

The magazine release is fully ported. The trigger will be cut after I have the handle done.

Nice work... very rewarding when it involved your hands

Another 4hrs grouse hunting (flushed 5) and 5hrs carving. Just going off feel and instinct. Realized finger grooves mean I won't have to bother checkering it! Hoo-rah. Weighs 5.49lbs as it stands.

Lovely... very classic look.

Going with a rear peep sight?

any chance to get close up of your bolt handle? Looks great.

Jerry

Thanks. Not on this one. There's a Bushnell Match Pro 6-24*50 in the mail for this one. Ordering a pic rail and rings this week.

It seems like this was an early version, the handle I've never seen before and it doesn't look like the barrel is (easily) removable. Previous owner lost the rear sight.
If you really like this, I'd probably be up to do a trade for the normal "ball" style. We'll see how much i like the Ikea paddle when it's all put together.

Wow! That's a beautiful job!
Thanks

Always amaze at some people craftsmanship, you could do it as a business.

Thanks. With the prices asked online, I really could. I see some chassis worth double or triple my most expensive gun.
Are you going to be my first customer? :p

I brought it to work today. Installed 3/8 pillars and countersunk the bolts. I'll print a buttpad and test trigger guard this evening. I'll have to wait till my scope arrives (~13th) and do some accuracy testing before seriously looking into performing some glass bedding. Until then, I'll be applying Tru-Oil to it daily.

Once that's done, find a 457 action to make one for and do it all over again.

Thanks Jerry. It does shoot good enough that I don't feel the rifle is what's holding me back in the prs matches I've shot so far. The last couple club matches I shot, I was around 80% of the winning scores with the usual great shooters there, so pretty happy about that. Especially after cleaning the dust out of my mags and fixing my feed issues. 12 round mags to cut down on the reloads would be nice, so I made a 3d printed mag bottom extension. I have to try it at the range before I get too confident though, might need a stronger spring to make it reliable.

If I had those stock making skills I'd be building silhouette stocks. Right now there is exactly one producer and he's in the USA.

Glad you are shooting well. If you need any help with the testing and development of the mag extenders, please let me know. I can 3D print as well.

maybe adding a chuck of spring from another mag will help give enough push. Got a few mags that can be sacrificed to see what can be made to work.

Scope arrives Monday. Rings, sling swivels, and rail arrived today - probably way too high but what can ya do for $29 combined. I'll see how it shoots before getting a lower rail or rings. Never had 30mm before. Also made the buttpad and trigger guard (3D printer)

That is amazing work, congratulations. Between yourself and turbo_bird, there are some pretty talented folk here.

I have to admit, I'm very happy with my bone-stock Scorpio (20" barrel model) with the original stock and unaltered trigger.

Amazing how much fun and satisfaction you can get from a $200 rifle!
