Canadian 'super pigs' set to spread disease and damage the environment in the US.

rosemary barton is the first thing that came to mind …. Those americans arent ready for that kind of super pig.
Lol

Seriously.. where are these animals ? Ive never heard of this before

Kinda sounds like another fearmongering fake news thing, but if it was real it would be an interesting hunt.
If they are that invasive, an open year round, no bag limit season sounds reasonable. I bet they'd be good eating.

I've read that the American wild boars are largely a mix with domestic breed's as well. Not so sure this article is all that accurate... I've seen 600 lb domestic pigs, doubt they would get anywhere near that big living off the land.

I have heard the MNR say that under no circumstances should you try and hunt them

Apparently they get smart and learn new behaviors

My question is:
What if you set up 3-4 guys with good semi's ,thinking SKS etc <insert picture of Danny DeVito. so anyway, I started blasting>

And you did a proper cull

I know you wouldn't get them all, but isn't that better than waiting months for MNR to trap a few

maybe im totally wrong?
fell free to give me information i don't currently have and ill change my opinion

Naw, I mean really... Who in their right mind is going to allow an army of hunters to shoot them on sight when you can leave it to the underfunded & understaffed MNR to set traps to catch the entire sounder in one go? LOL LOL LOL, the reality is the entire sounder NEVER gets caught... So stopping hunters from shooting them is only going to enable the pig to establish itself.

Years from now they will be saying they made a mistake and they should of allowed them to be shot on sight... Just... You... Wait...

From what I've read, I don't think there is an answer yet, just lots of advice as to what doesn't work. If its true that they learn from one incident, ie shot at once during the day, and they then become nocturnal, we would be in tough in Canada. Can't hunt at night, can't use night vision or spot lights even if we did, can't use suppressors; these are all useful tools that help down south, but aren't an option here.

If hunting was a viable solution states like Texas and Georgia wouldn't have hog problems.

Some states are actually banning hog hunting, because having a hunting season can have negative effects- many hunters who like to hog hunt don't have much interest in actually eradicating them, and hunters who like to hog hunt but don't have hogs in their neck of the woods are more likely to transport hogs in hopes of establishing a population closer to home.

Trapping works, but only under the right circumstances - traps need to be manually triggered by a person only when the entire sounder is in the trap. Otherwise you create trap shy pigs and you'll never get them all. Of course this kind of trapping is costly and manpower heavy, which is why few places actually do it.

In Texas there are landowners who are charging fees to hunt hogs on their land and at the same time collecting subsidies for crop damage due to the hogs. Good little money maker. There is no interest in actually eradicating them
