16 gauge what is old is new

I was given a few bags of 16 gauge paper shells. Might have to watch out for a deal on a single shot. Hmm and a 16g Lee Load all. and hulls and ....

Here’s pick of 1897 winchester 16 guage made in 1906 , grandfather lived in between Dewberry and Islay alberta, came over from Sweden in 1900s
A Neumann brothers 16 guage double barrel I have also

I guess my grandfather bought it earlier than I thought. Based on the serial#, it was made in 1915, and I would imagine he bought it not long afterwards. Apparently I missed the 100th Anniversary. Oh well, since I don't have the exact date of purchase, I'll have a memorial hunt on an equally random date.

A few pictures of the gun can be viewed at:

My 16 gauges 2 of which are recent additions, top Dougal sxs hammer gun 1883,next Manu sxs 1928, Model 12 Winchester 1957 and the newest Remington 1148 semi auto 1965 vintage

Love the Dougal

Always been a fan of the 16g, have owned many Browning 16g guns and loved them all...it was always the tracking down of shells I hated and since I don't reload and 95% of my shooting is clays it would get expensive fast as well. Still have a Japan Auto 5 Sweet, such a nice classic semi but never did shoot them well :/

Grew up on the 16 gauge is there still any love out there for it . It's been a long winter looking for some positive interaction things have been combative on the board last little while .

Yes sir I have a vintage Remington 870 wingmaster in 16 gauge. It's an odd one as it's simply a 12 gauge in dimensions with a smaller barrel. I'm a big fan of old Remington 870 12 gauges. Shooting the 16 is exactly the same but has a perfect amount of recoil. Number 6 shot out of a modified barrel makes it my absolute favorite for game bird gun. I wish shells weren't so expensive and hard to come by.

Got new Browning BPS 16g Hunter grade with usual 3 tubes, added skeet tube.
Bought about 5years ago. Still unfired.
Buy/bought shells at gun shows at reasonable prices.

Bought a case well 9 boxes of 16 g off an older gentlemen at the club who didn't think he would hunt again $75 and he would not take a penny more.Still some class guys in this world

The only 16 I ever shot was my mom's Parker Trojan.

Can you believe that she's giving it to my nephew? The rotten little bugger! His father had better start buying him shells, that's all I have to say!

Love the 16 gauge. Don't hunt waterfowl so don't really need a 12 gauge. I like the older manufacture that were built on 20 gauge frames personally. Here's two of my favourites, a Model 31 Remington(1946 vintage) 28 inch, full choke and an Iver Johnson Champion Solid Rib 30 inch, full choke. Hard to date but discontinued 1941 but 2 3/4 inch chamber so 1930's vintage. The old fellow I got it from bought it in the lobby of the Royal York hotel in Toronto in 1941 from a salesman so rings true to me. Both very light and well balanced.

A lot of pretty 16 gauges you guys have. My Dad gave me an old Mossberg 190 bolt action with the adjustable choke that was given to him. IT is in pretty decent shape, but it certainly was no safe queen.
Not exactly pretty, but works well with slugs. Three shot cloverleaf groups at 25 yards, no problem with the 50 yard gong at my range either. Bolt works surprisingly slick. Wish 5 or 10 shot mags were a thing...
Was able to find 4 boxes of trap loads locally as well. Slugs were cheap for it...old stock.
Kind of getting attached to the ugly old thing now.

I used to think that getting attached to ugly old guns was a thing for me. Turns out they don't have to be ugly!

Sort of reviving this thread..

I have a 16ga Tobin that I take out every year. This was my uncle's only shotgun, which he gifted to me years ago. I cherish it.

I believe it's a special long range. 30" barrels choked full/full.

Nice Tobin. I have 3 of them, including one just like the one you have pictured. It’s a “black diamond” model. Probably has Krupp barrels, not Demoya. Most were tight choked from the factory. FYI, I would check your chambers, it should be 2 9/16”.
