hey i know they are a great brand of scope but i had a vx1 and vx3 and both were horrible at dusk or low light situations anyone else have this problem

Nope, not me.
Especially when I compared them side by side at dusk with a Bushnell Elite 3200...
I was sold on them then and still to this day.
But, thats what makes this forum great everyone is able to voice an opinion.

Nope. My Leupold VX3's are great in low light. Are you sure you have genuine Leupold's and not knock-offs?

The only one that I had that sucked in low light was the 3x9 x33. Cost me 2 175+ mule deer. Could see the buck no problem with naked eye and with binoculars. But the scope was just black shadows. Use that scope on my 222 rem for gophers now and is great for that.My 2x7 and 3x9 scopes are excellent.

Suck at low light.. compared to what, and how low of light are we talking? Objective lens size? All important factors here.

My 20mm vx2 is not as good in low light as my 40mm vxiii, but that is to be expected. Neither are poor for what they are.

both of mine are 50 mm scopes the last 10 mins i can see with my bare eyes but cant pick up a good image through scope, i have a redfeild 3x9x50 on my muzzle loader and thats twice the scope the leupolds are my crossfire 2 is better right at dark as well

well from what i can tell they are guenine great all day they just suck at low light

You cannot tell unless you purchased it from a dealer. Leupold was hit with counterfeit from China for a while, sold on ebay mainly.
Many find out by sending their defective Leupold to the factory. Almost any brand of value is counterfeit at one time or another.
Best way against it, is to buy from know dealer.

This is the first time ever that I read a Leupold was poor at dusk and low light..and I own a few ..all way better in that regard than most brand.

Contact Leupold with your scope serial numbers and they can likely confirm if you have a genuine scope or a counterfeit. As has been already stated in this thread there are knock-off Leupy's circulating and they can be hard to tell from an original.

with what other scopes did you compare them? what model of leupold scopes and what reticles?

what were the conditions of the test? on a rifle or held by hand? during what kind of hunting situation?

a lot of questions but that may help you to understand and i used to shoot wild boar at night under the moon and we never used a leupold but they can used for many low light activities depending on the model and the kind of hunting situation.

tell us more.

the usaf 1951 resolution chart test may help you to get some answers and to compare with other scopes in of course similar conditions.

I have a few VX3 and one VX1. The 3s I find are better in low light.
I got almost the whole fleet over to leupolds now.
I’m a big fan.

I have multiple leupolds. They’ve always been a good low light scope. I’d suggest getting an eye exam. It recently took me 6 months to realize I needed glasses for reading now. When your used to excellent eyesight it’s hard to rationalize it might be taking a dump on you due to age!

I dont profess to be an expert on scopes - wouldnt increasing the magnification on a variable power scope reduce the light intensity??? If so, perhaps the OP is running with too much magnification.

loupold scopes

the best scope by far any scope available today, it is 4 times better than vx3 2.5 x 8x
