Hi everyone.
Can someone recommend a descent scope 1-6 or 1-8 to be used on GSG-16 and then, after i get a 5.56 carbine, on it as well.
I'm a beginner in optics and any advice is appreciated. Looking to spends less than $600 if that is possible
Thanks in advance

Honestly it all depends what you are looking for or define “Decent” as.

You can get some LPVO for under 600$ no problem but they might not be the most clear or have all the bells and whistles. Plus everyone has a brand they had good experiences with and others had terrible so take each answer with a grain of salt even mine.

I always found Bushnell to make decent product. Had a couple scopes by them at one time that I felt did an amazing job.

Athlon is a new found friend to me I have a 2-12 BTR Gen 2 on my hunting rifle and love it.

Vortex makes a good assortment of gear I have the crossfire knockers and really enjoy them. My father has a diamondback scope and loves it as well.

I think every major brand makes something you’re after but if you want to run a bunch of competitions they might not be the best. I had a Nikko Stirling 1-6 at one point in time that worked great on a 22 and would probably function on a 223 but I also have a 6-24 FFP Diamond by Nikko and its not a scope I would recommend except maybe to my worst enemy. Its the second one because the first one got replaced after particles started to show up on the reticle.

Best advice is to go to cabelas or a store and just look through a few and see what you like. Canadian tire is another option of places to look they let me handle scopes whenever I want and they know I am not buying anything.

Cheers,
B

'Best' is always hard to determine but Vortex (strike eagle), primary arms or bushnell ar optics line should have something that should fit your criteria.

I had a vector 1-5 kicking around so I threw it on my 1022 last week.
Works perfect, sighted in at 25 and it groups about 3 inch low at 100.
Glass is excellent, turrets are excellent,30 mm tube, reticle is decent.
1x power looks true, and clear.
I know it’s cheap but it’s only going a recoil less rifle.
I paid $160 I think? Used.View attachment 668173

Thank you everyone for the information. I should definitely visit some retailers and do a little comparison. So far price wise Vortex® Strike Eagle 1-6 looks like a good candidate.

If youre going to use it for 223 also, get the 223 version. primary arms or vortex are the best bang for your buck for that price range. i think bushnell has some ar lpvo that is decent too

I have the Bushnell AR 1-4 Illuminated which once lived on an AR and I had no issues with it. With the Bushnell you get a lot of bang for your buck, its illuminated, FFP, has a folding throw lever and exposed target turret (if you are into that sort of thing on an LPVO). It now lives on my FX9 and serves me well in that role. I also have a Vortex 1-6 Strike Eagle on a WKGen2 and its also a solid option for the price.

Great info you all. thanks again. I think i might be leaning towards the Vortex Strike Eagle.
Another really nice option would be Sig Tango MSR but i can't find any in Canada and looks like buying one from the USA is not an option either with ridiculous export laws it seems.
Do those scopes ever go one sale or $599+tax is pretty much all i can get? Any good price watches for Canadian optics online? Ill also will try to get a used one here as soon as i can get access to the EE forums :)

No disrespect intended to guys who own the Vortex, but if you’re looking at a Strike Eagle, try to also find a Burris RT-6 to compare against before you buy. They’re priced similarly making them direct competitors.

I was advising someone who was in the same boat as you, and after he did much research, his conclusion was the same as what I said all along: at that price point, the best bang for the buck is the Burris (honourable mention to the Bushnells).

The RT-6 improves upon the excellent and well-regarded MTAC 1-4 that was very popular in 3-Gun back in the day. Burris spends a fraction of what Vortex does on marketing, so the RT-6 is very much under the radar in comparison to the Strike Eagle. But it’s worth checking out.

I would not spend $600 on a scope for a 22. Just my opinion. Even a Chinese scope from aliexpress will do. I have a 4-16 illuminated red and green, 6 settings each (full tree not just a dot), parallax adjustment (works), zero stop (yes), on my 22 magnum, works like a charm for $75. All works, no garbage at all. I too have a Vortex strike Eagle 1-6 as you plan to put on, yeah sure do it. It sits on my SL8. But honestly, ...

Margins on scopes are insane.

Makes sense, but it will sit for a month or so on a .22 util i get a either WS180 based carbine or X95 :) This is why i want a decent piece which will work on a 5.56 caliber weapon as well

Thank you, will definitely take a look at Burris
