Hey guys I am looking at possibly ordering a custom shotgun from Fossari as I am needing a LOP of 12.25 and an adjustable comb, a combo that most manufacturers do not make easy to get without a 10K+ price tag. I would be using it for hunting waterfowl, skeet, & trap.
Fossari looks to be high quality yet serviceable when needed.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or even just talk around the clubhouse in regards to these shotguns?

I don't know of any around here so I've never handled one but they look to be very well built. The only thing I'd be leary about is they may suffer from the same problem that Zoli suffers from in that everyone has heard of Beretta and Browning but many never heard of Zoli so they don't tend to hold good resale value. If you plan to keep it forever that may not be a problem. I'd look into product support for something that isn't well known like this gun too.

Thank you for replying.
I would be keeping it forever, so as you thought resale value isn't something I am concerned about.
But product support I will definitely look into.
Thanks!

They could just as I said not without a huge price tag and all id get out of it would be a custom stock. this way I get the whole gun, and so far without loosing quality as far as I can tell. But thats why I am here lol to find out more

Kind of dawned on me, but Fossari on this side of the pond, people call them F.A.I.R. right?

Just thinking out load, so bear with me...

- Any other special features you're after? As in, non-standard engraving, barrel configuration/multiple barrels ?
- When I think of adjustable comb, I think of it as a less expensive way to fit a stock to someone, not something I'd be thinking about when doing a special order... But I guess it would make sense if you're using the guns for multiple discipline (not that I would know the comb-setting-difference between field/sporting field/trap skeet ?!?)
- For a 12.25" LOP, does Fossari have a scaled down stock? Of they simply chop-off a regular length stock to your desired length?

Yes they do have scaled down versions, I also want to talk to them about what size the grip would then be scaled down to and possibly make that smaller too.. I have very small hands.. Brownings 1911, 380 fits perfectly.
I actually hadn't thought of different engravings.
I have a 20ga and wouldn't need any other calibers this being a 12ga so I dont think Id worry about additional barrels.
Im not sure the differences in settings for the different sports, but with how much my face changes with slight weight changes its the best option for fit that may change.

Thank you you have given me more to think about!

Having a stock that fits like a glove is one of life's little pleasures.

- If you're considering a standard shotgun barrel configuration, I'd be tempted to find a nice (Beretta/Browning/Perazzi/Guerini) lightly-used O/U (let someone eat the initial devaluation) and have a stock made to fit you (Cast/Drop/Pitch/LOP)
- - But I'd be hard press to tell who could fit you in BC, nevermind carve the stock... cjdawe (On CGN) does some beautiful work, but I don't know how long his wait list is...

As far as FAIR shotguns are concerned. I'm guessing you'd be importing them through Bilozir ?
- He also imports RFM

I wouldn't be dealing with the imports, a shop I know is considering bringing some in so Im just looking at this being a possibility for me.
Thank you I have looked into getting a custom stock made, and it was 4-5G base price like I said above with Fossari I could get an entire gun for that price. I am in AB

For stock work, Jakob Strasser near Calgary is supposed to do nice work.
- If not going full custom, maybe have the stock butstock reworked?

I think it would be more sense to buy something where parts and service would be more readily available... But considering that I'm seldom that rational when making a purchase...
- If you're set on a Fossari... Run with it... It's a long term purchase, I'd want to negotiate a few spare springs and firing pins (just for the peace of mind)

I wasn't aware of the relationship between Fossari and FAIR but there is nothing (IMO) wrong with FAIR shotguns. What I do find odd is that Fossari uses a Boss action but FAIR never has, at least to my knowledge, which leads me to believe that maybe FAIR is manufacturing Fossari guns for Fossari.

Well - You could get a Beretta 686 Sporting c/w adjustable comb. Cutting down the stock is not a particularly difficult job, there are lots of people that can do it. All in, you'd be looking at about 3500$ new.
You dont mention how accomplished you are at shotgun shooting. You hear mention of "fit". It is certainly an important consideration if you want to become proficient, and shoot a lot. The problem is, you need someone on this side of the pond to establish the fit parameters for you, before you can consider a customized stock/gun. As mentioned, parameters such as cast, drop, LOP, grip, etc need to be measured by someone that knows their stuff.

Thank you, I think I am only really set on having a custom stock. I have a Browning White Lighting but would require so much alteration it wouldn't be worth it, and with being varnish and not oiled its never going to look as nice as it is now without completely redoing the stock. Also with having to take so much off the back end I would have to add weights to keep it from being too front heavy.
But I definitely like your idea of getting spare springs and such.

Have you considered a TSK or PFS? You would have an almost infinite amount of adjustment and can make changes if needed. My PFS will adjust down to 12.5" and extend to 15". And all the other adjustable parameters in it are endless. You can buy the TSK without a recoil reducer in it too. The PFS you'd simply remove the washers in it to eliminate the recoil reducer if you didn't want that feature.
Google precisionfitstocks or tsk-italy

It seems obvious that your heart is set on a new gun, custom stocked to fit rather than modifying a factory offering to your requirements. Who am I to discourage this endeavour? Both approaches can yield your desired results, if Fossari or another maker is willing to make you a custom fitted gun it will probably be quicker, maybe less expensive and certainly satisfactory compared to buying a standard factory gun and having it custom stocked to your requirements. It’s a long slow road either way but the chronic lack of competent stockmakers in Canada truly capable of fitting a shooter and making a stock to suit makes this painfully slow in Canada, expect this project to take years and probably require some in person fitting wherever the stockmaker lives. As previously mentioned, the VERY first thing you need to do is to determine what the gun will be used for and what you hope to accomplish, most shotguns are not ideal for all purposes. You mentioned that you have a small stature with smaller hands and are looking for a more personalized fit. Agreed, a shorter stock alone is only one part of fit, all of the stock needs to conform to the stature and shooting style of the shooter. For instance, while a slender 5’ 2” woman will definitely require a shorter than standard stock, she will also usually benefit from higher comb/lower butt face, smaller grip, slimmer forend and reduced grip to trigger distance as well. Balance would be adjusted as requested and normally be part of the fitting requirements Some of these things can be modified into a factory stock, some can’t without becoming ugly. Do your homework, find as many capable Canadian stock makers and European gunmakers as you can, contact each with your requirements and request a realistic estimate of both cost and completion for your project. Then you will have a decent handle on the practicality of the idea. Many top level competition shooters go this route so you won’t be breaking new ground. No matter how you go about this it will be a slow and expensive proposition, good luck.

Book a vacation to Italy (or Spain) with your significant other (if applicable) and get the gun fitted while you are visiting :)

Browning used to make a Citori Micro Midas with a 13" LOP

They still do, but at 10" LOP and no adjustable comb I would still have to hack it up to make it what I need. Something I previously tried with 2 Rem 1100, in 12ga & 20ga and wasn't ever truly happy with and was still getting kicked in the face.
