7th Annual Upper Canada Double Gun Classic

Besides paying for rounds of skeet, is there any other fees that are required? Do we have to pay the 25 dollar guest pass?

Yup, we do. That is a requirement for everyone on the grounds. Came into effect last year for the first time (post covid changes) so you missed it.

Am going to provide a much more detailed information post about 3 weeks before the day...roughly May 15. If I do it now, everyone will forget. LOL

On the plus side, Chris Dawe, Claudio Opacek and I are collaborating on an actual trophy for Best Gun! The intention is that all previous winners will have their names (and the gun) noted on the trophy as will all subsequent winners. Think Stanley Cup!

A squad of the top guns would be an interesting round of skeet

It would be.

In that vein a few of us were duck hunting a couple years ago and the assembled four guns were Claudio’s Big B custom Fox, a SuperFox HE, my recently restored at the time Lindner Daly Diamond and to round it out a superb Superposed Magnum.

Stunt casting! Hahaha.

We always have one or two skeet’s fields reserved for our use when we are there. It’s possible the club might allow a round of SCs. I’ll look into it.

There's 5-stand available and people can shoot that if they like instead of skeet for different target presentations.

As for sporting clays depending on the number interested I could bring a squad around.
Wouldn't want to be more than a couple hours though so as not to miss out on the tables of guns and catching up with friends.
Sporting clays is $37/round (that's taxes-in) for generally 100 targets.
If anyone's interested speak up or pm me and if there's enough interest we can coordinate something.....

Thanks Mike. It’s the time involved in a round of SC that needs to be considered.

My experience is that in the past I regretted spending too much time shooting at Oshawa as compared to taking advantage of spending that same precious opportunity with the attendees. And there are some very knowlegable attendees. I can shoot skeet or sporting clays any weekend.

Teaser time.

Here is a rare James Purdey first-pattern thumb-hole under-lever pin-fire gun, made in 1865. It, and other interesting pieces, will be on display at the 7th Annual Double Gun Classic. See the "Let's see some pic's of your SxS's & O/U's" thread for a fuller account. This is the gun that introduced the Purdey sliding under-bolt to the double gun world.

Original condition?

Five weeks to go, time to bump this up a bit. I am looking forward to seeing some very fine guns, each year brings some new jewels to the mix. Where else does one get to see a wide range of fine modern, classic, vintage and antique doubles?

Another teaser. A very fine bar-in-wood 12-bore hammer gun (pin-fire, of course) by John Rigby & Co. of Dublin, with J. Needham's patent side-lever. Don't bother trying to spot the hinge.

Steve, you were reading my mind. Was thinking about it on an off all day today. Nice to get in front of the screen and see you beat me to it.

Here’s a bit of an announcement.

Each year we all have voted for what we’ve called The Best Gun of the Classic. And there have been some truly amazing guns that have won over the years. I mean AMAZING!

Well, we decided that a truly amazing gun needs a truly amazing trophy. So after a little brainstorming between Chris Dawe and myself, we acquired some raw materials and Chris has been busy creating a new kind of masterpiece, a little different from the woodwork we normally get to see from him. The trophy, when completed, will reflect much of what draws us to these vintage guns. Beautiful wood, fine metal work, amazing finishes and stunning craftsmanship.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that any future winner will be proud to display it in their home for a period of time.

It will be unveiled at the upcoming 2023 edition of The Classic.
