Bull elk / rifle / cartridge / bullet

Agreed big calibers are fun only downside if you've got ground to cover most of mine are a bit heavy in comparison & seem to get heavier as the day goes on. Lightweight quick handling counts for something.

How did a thread on elk rifles get to 3 guys insulting each like grade 4 locker rooms.

Just have a look at who started the thread! It’s pretty obvious. He starts multiple threads that ask for opinions and then argues with most that give an opinion. Has repeatedly sent threatening pms to multiple CGNer s and admits it. Clearly off the meds and delusional and thinks he’s actually hunted in the fog he exists in. Just look at this post where he asks for guides, cull hunters and hunters! Well if he actually hunted himself would you put the context in that manner? Makes the term Hunter sound exclusive to the author, no?Then comments on members pics while never providing any of his own! Too make everyone who knows anything about hunting wise to his lack of knowledge, he makes a ridiculous statement about harvesting does. Pretty much any seasoned hunter knows the balance of keeping the balance. I guess that’s why a certain amount of slotted tags for most big game include male and females of the species. Just ignore him and don’t respond to any of his posts or threads! It’s as simple as he is. Another pm in order? HAHA

Seriously? No PMs? We are well aware of Joels by now. Not withstanding the three you sent me (or did you think I forgot?), nor however many other members you sent outlandish pms to.

Simple advice, just give it a rest and stop being so combative on your own threads when you don’t like others answersafter asking for their thoughts and opinions… take it or leave it YMMV

How in the he77 is Spruster not pink yet???

I hope that doesn't happen. Seems a bit of fun can be had on his threads until the dreaded THREAD LOCKER shows up.

I'd like to jump into this thread but have never even hunted an elk let alone shot one. If I got the chance, I'd just use my 30-06 with 180gr NPs. Ignorance is bliss.

I got this one a while back ......

Why do u tell me go to hell and still post whats up

Been here since 2002. I have never told anyone on CGN to go to hell.

I do agree with SuperCub about the fun factor though! It’s like adding a bit of gas to an almost out fire haha

Supercub, you may just have to drag yur butt out west one of these years for an elk hunt, which by the way we usually carry moose tags cause we can and they pop do up.

LOL.

Shoulda saved the bunch I received, they were a hoot.

There is is an still open season, or tripalms and 10's, or group hunts, or etc. If you want a moose and don't mind driving a few hours you can get one. Not saying it is like it was 10 or 20 years ago but it is still very doable.

An elk hunt would be high on my bucket list. As mentioned, I'd just use a plain jane 700 with 180gr NPs.

I got my retirement moose hunt in NFLD out of the way a couple yrs ago, so elk should be next.

So question for you elk hunters. Lucky enough to be drawn this year for elk. I have used a 7mm WSM shooting 162 gr SST Hornady for deer. Will this load with good shot placement do the job. Have had excellent results on deer but know elk will be a different game.

If you are confident that you have the patience to wait for the perfect presentation, [It may not happen]
that bullet will probably work.
However, I would opt for a sturdier bullet if I was headed out for Elk. Then, if the presentation is not quite
ideal, you can punch through bone to reach vitals, should that be needed. [160 Partition or Accubond, 150
Scirocco II, 160 A-Frame, 150 TTSX, etc] EE.

I would use a tougher bullet.
