I do think the zastava m70 bolt is good as is. Keep the bolt intact 1 piece. I have medium rings on most of my zastava's with room to spare.

The zastava factory bolt looks pretty good on its own honestly. I have one in 460 weatherby.

Have owned several Zastavas and FN.

Hoping for a fusion of modern materials and early 20th century styling.

The wildcat "stalking rifle" stock and a straight bolt handle on a stainless receiver and barrel are part of that

From a k98k Sporter: This configuration cleared with low weaver scope mounts.

Bit crude, fitted a hand shaped handle with a M3 screw to be sure of position and shape then welded with the bolt. Bolt knob made with a single strand carbon and hand shaped.

That k98 sporter is giving me ideas. Going to be modifying a rifle and the recess to grab the bolt is a good idea.

Especially interested in seeing pictures from anyone who has built one on an fn style swept back bolt and converted it to a straighter more "oberndorfish" handle and how it was done.

I have one I’ll add for the mix, this one is an Oberndorf (also marked GEW 98) , the rifle was built by my grandfather. I always found the bolt on this to be super nice to look at. I haven’t shot this in 25 years, .458 Wm with a model 70 steel butt plate is a bit much for my boney shoulder.

He was built like a brick for sure. I fired 2 rounds from it before, I really should get a recoil pad on it and try it again.

The front rifle is an early 1950's FN Herstal commercial 98 in 30-06 with the bent and swept back bolt. Likely what you mean when you say "...an fn style swept back bolt...". It does fit perfectly around the 30MM scope which is mounted on Warne bases and low Burris rings.

The rear rifle, while it is not what I would call a "custom", is a sporterised FN Herstal Model 1950 Colombian military contract from the same early 1950's era and in 30-06 also. The bolt would have been straight in its military configuration and was bent and slightly swept back when it was sporterised.

Brownells sold a jig for bending/sweeping Mauser bolts.
