Any interest in good quality doubles

I ordered the Grd IV with the cyl/ic barrels. Its for woodcock and incidental grouse...and I am just trying to fit in with my partners who weild names like Arrietta, AYA, Benadelli, and Beretta....

Grade IV is a great bargain.

As a side note, Gagnon Sports show a used Hemmingway 12ga and a couple 471 Silver Hawks in 12 and 20......all advertised as in mint condition - don't know what that would translate to when seen in person :)

Very nice!

The only problem I see with doubles is their price, I think that's what puts most people off.

"Fine guns needn't be about elitism and snobs. Anybody who thinks they are somehow better because they own a 6 figure shotgun should keep those opinions to himself because there is always someone who can out shoot him with a less expensive gun. I can think of one fine gun owner I shot with on a preserve pheasant hunt who I suspect will never again say anything critical about Spanish sxs (at least he won't about mine.)" - Claybuster

Hi guys, I'm real new here but this is my $0.02. Claybuster, I liked your comments as the gun/camera/car don't necessarily make the gunner/photographer/driver. Kinda like telling Ernest Hemmingway he must have had a real good typewriter to produce the works that he did. Having said that I absolutely lust for English style guns. A buddy of mine has an AYA (Model 4 if I recall) that I hunted with one weekend a number of years ago - it was a pleasure to carry and I could hit with it like nobody's business, I still haven't convinced him to sell it though. I'm working on the Secretary of Finance on another gun for this fall. I fell in love with a Merkel boxlock that I handled at Cabela's (Pheonix) last fall - very nice - but it is a negotiation that needs be dealt with the utmost delicacy or the S.O.F could well become the Goddess Of War.

Cheers

I hear you Skywrench...in my house she holds two portfolios...secretary of War and Finance and she heads up the auditor general's commitee too...and holds sway with the Dept of the treasury...

Ok, so not the best picture of my double. It's more of a covert teaser...

Just in case anyone takes my previous comments as "elitism" - I like trying various hunting shotguns, and I do own and use pumpguns, a Win. model 12 - 12ga. ( my main waterfowl gun) , a Rem. 870 Wingmaster 12ga. just because it's so versatile, and an Ithaca 20 ga. English ultra because its about the lightest upland gun made.
But my heart is really with my one sxs double - an AYA #1 12ga, and three o/u's - Merkel 211e 16 ga. and a matched pair of Browning Citori White Lightnings, 16ga and .410 bore. Others come and go, but I like this core group of shotguns.
I currently have an AYA XXV 12 ga. sxs, and an SKB 500 20ga. o/u for sale, making room for something else to try.

Here's a mixed bag taken with my Merkel O/U 16 ga. one after noon near home last October. It is a versatile gun

Longwalker - I envy you :)......for me, anywhere reasonable Bird hunting is aprox 4+ hrs of driving one way from the GTA.

My partner and I are planning on a trip to Sask for Upland hopefully once this season......appreciate suggestions on not too remote (from ON) but productive area(s) where it may not cost an arm and a leg expense wise.

Thanks,

Doubles

Churchill? (which one?)......nice gun!

Ahsan
Its a Churchill clone built by Thomas Adsett & Sons, I sold my Churchill XXV 16ga about a year ago ( and now regret it alot). The Adsett handles the same and is a clone diamensionaly also. Untill I bought the Churchill I had never even fired a 25'' double and now I own 4, as upland gun they are perfect. American doubles are my preference as a clays/waterfowl gun but for upland work english guns fit the ticket. That clunker looks pretty nice what is it?

Ahsan Ahmed, most of southern Sask. has very good upland bird hunting, pick somewhere South of #1 highway, go to a local municipal office and get a landowner's map, and way you go. Motels in places like Weyburn, Moose Jaw and Swift Current welcome bird hunters. No place in Saskatchewan is close to Ontario though! Canadian residents can hunt sharptail and huns without a guide/outfitter, Pheasant are reserved for "residents only". PM me if you want some tips.

Interesting take. Can't hunt waterfowl while in possession of lead, over here. Did you use non-tox for all of them?

This Bevy of beauties was taken off the Mckay Brown site that Claybuster posted earlier.http://

they are beautiful. best guns have nothing to do with elitism, shooting ability or being snobs. it DOES have to do with having an eye for the obvious and an aprecitation of well crafted best guns.. i rebuilt an old stevens model 5100 in 16 ga. and i like it very much for upland and close shooting ducks and geese.owning a best gun sxs is somrthing that probably will never happen in my world, but i can sure appreciate them.

I have three nice double barrel shotguns.Two AYA's ,a 16 gauge and a 28 gauge.One Winchester ,a 28 gauge Model 23 Classic.Of the three the 28 gauge AYA is my favourite.

A 78 years old 12ga from a Belgian Mfgr Liegeoise D’Armes - long since defunct.......the sxs is in pretty good condition for it's age. Somebody had done a good job refinishing the stock (likely in Canada). The 30" bbls (F/M)are proofed for modern loads but I simply use 2 1/2inch Gamebore loads. This is one beautiful handling no name brand piece.......

Thanks very much! I shall be in touch for some more details.

Besides the bobwhite, are there any other models of affordable sxs? I'm looking at around 1000-1500. I tried my friend's 20ga AYA, and it's way better than to lug my 12ga duck gun around the woods.
