Russian vs Chinese Manufacture

Chinese SKS's seem to be very hit and miss with fit and finish. I hope that the russian SKS's will be uniform in quality.

im in the middle of researching the russian sks (i will post my finding ) and i can tell you that majority are refurbished and its been said that its as good as new however we dont know how much useage the "shooter grade" been thru after the refurb.

Do the Russian SKS have a chrome-lined barrel? The Chinese T-56 I bought back in the 1980's does.

yes, majority of the russian sks are chromed lined except 49-mid 51 , even those years the barrel maybe replaced to chromed during refub.

In the US Chinese SKS's used to be available for dirt cheap ($80-100)until import restriction were put in place about ten years ago. Now decent examples that weren't beaten up are selling over $200 easily. While the Russian ones seem to go for a bit over $300 I do believe that they are still less common than the Chinese. So however much they might have been regarded as cheap guns years ago, with the growing scarcity of these rifles it looks as if both varients are being recognized as practical, effective firearms.

The Russian guns would win out for me in the desirability department (thus I've put in for one), though I have been very happy with the performance of my Chinese carbine.

I have both, but prefer my Russian. :D

i on the other hand have both but prefer my chinese 1965 , why? cos the 65 reminds me what the russian looks like before the black paint refurb , nice workmenship and bluing.

check out the two trigger groups. 65 on top.

OK, as some of you know I have a Chinese. I have my name out there for a Russian. Cutton, I respect your opinion. Add a Yugo to the list and how do you rate the three. I will definitly add one more to the collection as another shooter.

Take Care

IMHO, chinese made sks from 56-66 would be identical to a russian in metal workmenship.

i happen to have a near new yugo m59/66 and what im about to tell may shock you so i hope you are sitting down, base on metal workmenship only , my chinese 65 have the edge as the winner, yugo makes very good metal but tends to slip up in the components pieces , such as carrier , top cover and rear sight assy while barrel and receiver are excellent ......i will take some pic on a side by side comparison .

early chinese vs. yugo M59/66

like i said earlier , the chinese 56-66 are identical to the russian in metal workmenship and bcos most russian are refurb with black paint over bluing , there was no point of adding it to the comparison cos all you gonna see is black paint so therefore its gonna be an early chinese vs. a yugo , the chinese is used factory 26 1965 and the yugo is near new M59/66 . the only two pieces of my russian that wasnt refurb was the carrier and under the top cover so those pieces were added to the pic.

1. barrel and receiver .... a tie , both the chinese 65 and the yugo were well made and blued.
top: chinese 65 , bottom: yugo .

2. gas tube .... winner yugo , the 65 fell short by parking the tube.
3. mag ..... winner yugo , nicer finish.
4. trigger groups .... a tie , both well made.
5. bolt .... a tie , both well made.

6. top cover ..... winner chinese 65, both had the top sides nicely done but under the yugo cover was rough machining (see pic below) .
top: chinese 65 , middle: yugo , bottom : russian

7. carrier , chinese 65 the winner , note milling mark on the yugo.
top: chinese 65 , middle : yugo , bottom: russian

8. rear sight assy. chinese 65 the winner (top) , yugo had numerous scratches under the finish.

so according to my very unscientific comparisons , i would have to say the chinese 65 has the edge over the yugo .
