Enfield scopes

Are any of you using a scope on your Enfields? I’m seeing some sporterized versions for cheap but wondering if it’s worthwhile to mount a scope for hunting. What type of mounts are you using?

OP, the thing about Lee Enfields of any mark is that if they don't shoot well without a scope, they will seldom shoot better with one.

Any Lee Enfields I've added scopes to and the S+K instamount is great, the scope was added because my aging eyes don't see the sights well enough to give me confidence, especially in low light conditions.

Some of the older mounts required drilling and tapping to fit bases that really weren't adequately rigid enough to stand up to field use.

The S&K bases work just fine.

What Enfields do you want to scope?

I don’t have any particular one in mind, I’ve been hunting with shotgun and slugs but thinking of going to rifle to extend my range and use a scope to help with my middle aged eyesight. Do some marks take to a scope better than others?

I have a 1 that is tapped and drilled for a base which I bought it that way. The easiest way to put a scope on is with a mount that uses the existing site holes, basically replacing your rear site on the #4 and clamping to the charger bridge.
The #1 a base can replace the rear site on the barrel but a forward mounted scout scope would have to be used. Scopes do help when your eye site starts to go. Mine started when I was 41,sites are slightly blurry for me. Picture is of a #4 sporter with a S/K mount. Scope is a cheap Nikki Sterling that came with some parts I bought. Probably will get up graded before too long.

Snider Shooter has pretty much covered it. You could have a look at the No.4 side mount for sale on eBay that is a no drill and tap. There is also the Armalon which is like the S&K but steel and can be fitted or removed with the scope and rings on the base.

I have a Parker Hale #4 that's tapped for a Weaver mount. It was my first deer rifle. Slapped a Bushnell Trophy (poor days) on it and was hitting golf balls at 100yrds (with Greek surplus ammo). No complaints on accuracy, and the deer didn't have time to complain!

Shot one of my best groups with a beater bushnell 4-12 on a Churchill #4. Was working up a load 3 rounds of each. Last 3 went in same hole, under 1/2". Went home and loaded some more, haven't taken it back to the range as I don't want to burst my bubble. Have other rifles that are designed for paper that don't shoot as good.
