I'm looking at the Mossberg 940 pro turkey, but I'm left eye dominant. Should I be worried that hot shells will be pelting me in the face all day? Are there any vets here that shoot from the left shoulder with right hand shotguns that might have some pointers?
thanks!

Never had it be a problem on shotguns they generally don't eject violently enough to be an issue, have a 930 and it hasn't happened yet.

Its semi auto centerfire rifles with no brass deflectors that get me and the odd 22lr dumping burning powder on my support arm.

Edit: Also the charging handle on those types of shotguns tends to act as a deflector in most cases.

No other manufacturer is more interested in making shotguns for left-handed hunters than Benelli. The Super Black Eagle, M2, and Montefeltro are all available in lefty. Anytime Benelli debuts a new semi-auto shotgun it’s almost guaranteed to be available in a left-handed model the following year.

I would never consider a semi throwing empties and gas across my face and eyes... You have a lifetime of shooting ahead of you...treat yourself to a quality left hand shotgun. You won't regret it.

Left handed, left eye dominant, right hand eject SG. No worries. If you are set on a left hander the options are available, but limited.

Left eye dominant or land hand dominate…or both?

If you shoot left handed, the Mossberg is a good choice as it has the tang safety. No issues getting anything in your eye shooting from the left

When I used to shoot both sides I never was hit by an empty and can't think of any time I've seen an empty hit someone's face due to shooting left handed with a right handed gun. The odd time the empty was a visual distraction but if shooting at a turkey I doubt one would ever notice
Did see a kid get smashed in the face shooting trap left handed with a bolt action shotgun though

Right handed, left eye dominant. I'm more concerned with getting stuff in my eyes, yeah. Does the position change a lot if I'm a bigger guy? I'm 6"2" so I'll have to put some spacers in the butt.

hahaha, I'll stay away from bolt action shotguns then.

Thanks everyone for the tips, I'm looking for something well-built and reliable. Mossberg 940 Pro turkey or Tactical look to strike a balance for me between features and price. A buddy of mine hinted that Mossberg might not have the best fit and finish. He recommended Berretta and Benelli. If I can get away with a right-hand sg, it would be a relief. I suppose testing them out at a range before buying would be smart. Or at least handling the sg to get a feel for the quality, etc.

If you are shooting right handed, why would it ever be a problem?

The fact that you are cross eye dominant has nothing to do with the function of the gun. Im also cross eye dominant and have never felt disadvantaged in any way.

You won't get hit buy flying hulls what yo do get in your eye is unburnt powder residue and burnt powder residue any crude that is in the chamber after firing a certain amount of it will get in your eye .
25 years of competitive shooting and 55 years of live bird shooting
Just saying
Buy a win sx4 left hand and you will have no issues of any kind best gun for the money

Left handed and only shoot rh pump shotguns, never have I got anything in my eyes or been pelted by spent hulls. Wear your eye pro, there’s way more options in rh guns and finding accessories for a rh gun is easier. Especially if you buy a Remington or Mossberg, barrels of different lengths and the like are easy to find.

Not a semi auto, but a pump, the Browning BPS. It's bottom load and eject, so no worry about shells in the face as it throws them right at your feet. They don't make as many models as they used to but these are all steel, and built like a tank. Personally they are my favorite shotguns.

If I read this correctly you are a right handed shooter with a dominant left eye? Why are you concerned about shooting a right hand ejecting shotgun then? Are you saying you are going to try shooting from the left shoulder instead? I assume you shoot shotgun with both eyes open hence the cross-dominance issue as a right handed shooter.
If you are already a right hand shooter it would be much easier to simply correct or "adjust" the issue by either closing your left eye while shooting(not my preferred choice) or by wearing a pair of shooting glasses with an ocular dot over the left pupil to prevent your dominant left eye from being in charge.
I use a Magic Dot on my glasses but any piece of tape will work just fine.
Have someone place a dot with the tip of a black sharpie over the centre of your pupil of your left eye on your lens once you are in your proper shooting stance with the gun properly mounted and you are sighting down your barrel aiming at an object. Remove your glasses, place the tape or Magic Dot on the inside of the lens aligned centred on the sharpie dot then clean the sharpie dot off the lens and wha-la you are good to go...it took me much longer to type that out than the procedure itself.
I like the Magic Dots as they do not have glue. They just cling to the lens and never fall off or come loose even while cleaning the lens. A finger nail under the edge simply lifts them free and they can be reused over and over. You can order them online or some opticians that cater to shooters carry them. And yes I am a right handed shooter who in later years developed a cross-dominance issue and all my guns(except break actions) are right hand eject. Learning to shoot from the left shoulder was not an option for me nor was shooting right eye closed(tried both and both were horrible alternatives).
I just put the dot on my glasses. Problem solved.

Another with the "condition". Lot's of great advice on models mentioned above. Never had an issue shooting RH guns, I don't even see the hulls come past. My biggest issue is finding one with a cast on stock. The Berreta's I have came with spacers for this, the Bennelli is LH. And the BPS (pump though) fits good as well. Many other models I have to force into position.

Maybe you're right and I should just shoot from my right shoulder. I suppose I should try and see which side nets me the most clay hits.

One thing to consider is that my left eye is not only dominant, but it has better vision than my right eye. I'm a little myopic from my right eye, things are noticeably less sharp, even with my glasses.

If you want to learn how to shoot all over again from the left, it will be advantageous. I had no time for that. I wont change what shoulder to shoot from. It was easier for me to learn how to adjust being right handed and left eye dominant. Shoot with both eyes open and keep your eyes on the target. Spanks post has a lot of good info for you to consider.
