Sucks because this gun has some potential…
If these were more accurate it would be a no brainer to get one, to me, but for the barrel weight and length the accuracy results I’ve seen just aren’t good enough. My Type 81 folder apparently shoots just as accurately and is half the weight and size.
Still kind of considering it though, in case those guys whose accuracy data I’ve seen are just poor shots.

Quality varies for sure. But that's true for all of them. I did not encounter the stiff trigger you mention. I like your idea of the rail better than the others since it goes over the upper part of the receiver, probably reducing this potential problem. The new rail from TI is also way better than the first one from Herron.

You need Jerry Miculek behind the trigger to get some real results. Not everyone is a good shot… I can shoot the SKS quite well and everyone at the range looks at me like I’m performing witchcraft when I continually peg the 10” 200m gong with open sights.
I think much of the accuracy problems are shooting with a cold barrel… sounds backwards but I’ve noted the SKS likes to be warmed up before it starts shooting consistently.

I tried to resist, but I lack will power and ordered one. Hopefully it likes surplus ammo, because that's about all I'll be feeding it. If nothing else, it'll look good next to the LMG version.

I posted a pic of my groupings in the other thread when these first came out last year, im not jerry miculek but still i got the exact same accuracy out of both the SR and the standard model with the red wood furniture (se). Was about 3-4 moa groups consistently for both rifles with norinco surplus. More than accurate enough considering the effective range of the cartridge, you could hit a silhouette size gong out to 400 no problem. But im inclined to agree that i prefer the standard model for the reasons you said, smaller and lighter and does the same exact thing. Still a cool rifle, and a good deal at 999.
Great deal for $999 + extras...and it just might be the closest your ever get to owning a DMR...

Can I please get some pictures of this folder that weighs 5lbs and is a foot and a half long?
In any case, my experience with the heavy barrel on the lmg has been really positive (after removing the bipod) so I'm pretty optimistic that will carry over to the SR. The standard editions with the pencil barrel covered with the ridiculously long "grenade launcher" sleeve are just totally unpalatable to me.
I would go as far as to say it's even better for lefties. You can load a mag and charge with your right hand while keeping hold of the pistol grip with your left. The ejection pattern and lop should keep casings well away from your face, unlike a bullpup.
Yes and they alerted Slava to the presence of griz. He woul drive towards the griz and uf it did not run away he'd grease it with the Tigr.
The first time I met him he offered me a fresh griz oaw to take home with me. He also kept the gall bladders as their salve healed cuts and burns.
He had a student geologist killed by a griz at this site in 92 so he had a run ir die attitude with them.

I order two of them，really good deal compare to last year when it just entered Canadian market.
Let’s not split hairs, the folder is substantially lighter and smaller, though I agree that grenade launcher thing is pointless deadweight and looks dumb.
The heavy barrel though is not an improvement when you also increase the barrel length. Some have pointed out that the terminal ballistics of 7.62x39 are bad and that disqualifies any DMRs chambered in it. But it’s the internal ballistics which are really an issue.
7.62x39 gains almost no speed between 18.5 and 20.5 inches, and the longer barrel will deflect more and therefor, for the same muzzle velocity, be less accurate. The thicker barrel profile only helps to make up for the detrimental decision to increase the barrel length. It’s unfortunate that the gun was designed to look accurate, because those exact design changes condemn it to not be.
