Alright so I am looking for information on the CZ 457 serial rifles particularly the varmints. (Left hand info even better)

Basically this is my current conundrum, I am looking at the CZ457 Varmint in Left hand for one reason only. I like the CZ barrel swapping abilities. I currently have a T1X that is very accurate and not a single bad thing I can say about it. However I want to be able to switch barrels and have access to a 17HMR and the Tikka platform really isn’t the easiest for barrel swapping.

(I do currently have all the parts needed to swap to 17hmr just haven’t tried it yet) I just don’t think it will be able to hold the same level of accuracy/repeatability that the CZ option would without some custom gunsmith work to both barrels.

So I would like to hear opinions on the CZ 457 varmint or American. Especially if you have shot it next to a tikka t1x. As I am considering the idea of letting my T1X go and replacing it with the mentioned CZ457

One of the many things I am doing while I sit at home waiting on back surgery.

Cheers,
B

Hey B
Phuk it , sell the Tika .

Buy a 457 MTR in .22lr and another MTR in .17HMR

Two rifles , two scopes , two calibres.

You will never regret it .

Beautiful rifles.

I have a weird addiction that every rifle needs to be a switch barrel . I currently have 5 Barrels for my T3X and looking at picking up another action and barrel. Also 3 barrels for a shotgun. A looking at a few barrels for my next rifle build that is starting as a 308.

Can’t help it. Living in an apartment it’s much easier to store a barrel than a rifle.

^and I have an addiction to the opposite. lol Other than a 12ga pump, no barrel swapping in my life. Scopes are too specific to what I use them for, nor do I care to re-zero anything for any reason. lol Enough about me.

I think the Tikka T1x MTR and CZ457 Varmint are very different guns. I like the look of the CZ more, but like shooting a T1x MTR more. These days I'd get a varmint barrel only if it were only bench/prone shooting I had in mind, but I've found the T1x with it's medium contour barrel to be an excellent option for bench shooting.

Have you considered keeping the T1x in 22 and just adding a T1x in 17HMR? Would you (OP) use the same scope on a 22 you'd use on a 17HMR?

Have you thought about a Sako Quad rimfire. They are designed to switch barrels.

If you can keep the tikka and the Cz do both. That way you can snag a .22 lr barrel down the road for the CZ and decide if the Tikka is worth keeping after having owned both for awhile. You don’t want to be in that situation regretting the sale of the tikka if it could’ve been avoided.

Don't have a T1X... but I can attest that when I found the right lot of ammo for my CZ 457 varmint it is probably more accurate than I can shoot it at the moment. I like my CZ so much I just picked up another one with some of the sales on right now

When my backs healed I like to shoot the 100/200m bench comps for fun locally. So that’s why I lean towards the varmint. If it’s a barrel swap I’d use the same scope but separate rifles get their owns scopes.

I have thought about getting a second one but currently space is extremely limited in my safe. (Currently have a barreled action hanging inside because I can’t fit the rifle with stock on in the safe.

The T1X with the right ammo is a lights out shooter for sure from the bench.

I totally agree. That’s why I’m so hesitant.

I see Tikka's on the EE with a common description 'of only a 100 rounds through it' or such, it's common to see these listings, I've always wondered why people sell them on after such little use.

I think for the most part people don’t put in the time to test ammo properly. I mean it took me over probably 500 rounds to find a lot of eley that it liked and it takes time to do this that allot don’t have and think it should shoot right out the box.

I think my best group is 1 MOA at 100 Yards with eley rem match. I am terrible at measuring groups properly. To me that’s pretty good for a Rimfire.

I have both the t1x and 457, the t1x magazines have a problem with some target ammo, SK Plus doesn't feed well nor does Eley. A buddy also has issues with the T1 not feeding some brands of target ammo. Accuracy wise not much to choose between the rifles i have other than reliability, then CZ feeds flawlessly, never considered getting the 17hmr barrel, spend enough on 22 ammo without getting the extra expense of 17.
