WK180 or SKS ??? Pros/cons

Hey guys so I’m thinking of buying either kodiak defence wk180 gen2 in 223/5.56 or sks for target shooting since 223/5.56 and 762x39 is bought in bulk for good prices. Something that has a little more kick then 22 for target shooting and don’t brake the bank either.

What are the pros and cons between them both ?? And what would you guys prefer for yourselves?? If I went with a sks I would buy a aftermarket tapco interfuse stock in OD green for it, make it lighter and more new aged look. Is there a difference between Russian and Chinese ??

I’ve seen sks rifkes for 350-650$ depending on shape and small upgrades or aftermarket stocks with it and ammo, and wk180 gen 2 I’ve seen between 1200-1800 depends on accessories

Generally speaking I would go SKS. BUT you mention target shooting...what kind of targets....what range? SKS is not the most accurate rifle out there.....

Well there is a local indoor range but it’s only 25yrds, my outdoor shooting would be big steel plates hanging from some 2x6.
 
Battle proven vs. something that is known to shake itself to pieces on the range? Tough choice, and the poll clearly indicates the preference. Laugh2
 
The sks is one hell of a rifle and I've own a few and love them. I know for sure there is no better semi auto for the price. But now that they are coming onto $600, the extra $400 to get a used (the sks is used too) wk180 seems worth it to me. Just for the fit and finish. The lop on an sks is way short so they suck to hold and with all the gear on the muzzle they balance like holding a 6' 2x4 as a rifle.

I'm all for the sks and always defend them but really. Try holding the 2 rifles. One goes bang and the other handles like a glove

I'd take a $350 sks over a $1200 180 but when the sks is above $500 I'd pick the 180. I've seen many 180 gen 2 for less then 1200 and not many sks for less then $500

When the sks was the best rifle hands down is when it cost under 300 for a mint one. Cabelas use to have them for 189 and came with ammo

Ya it’s rare to find cheap ones now, but I figure if I’m spending 500-800 for a sks it may as well have a scope and come with a few magazines and sling and such.. I unfortunately have not had the chance to hold or handle let alone shoot neither the sks or wk180 just know that one can buy the ammo in bulk for decent prices.
What kind of trouble can one have if firing corrosive ammo ?? I mean I clean my rifles after I’m home or within 2-3days depending on how busy iam
Plus the weight would be lighter with a aftermarket tapco stock (the style that retains the bayonet)
 
Just to shoot something? SKS. The cockroach of all rifles, it will survive The Last of Us. Chinese are a bit more accurate, Soviet usually have better finish. Scoping SKS is challenging. And TBH is not really required.

What makes them more accurate over Russian ?? I’m not worried about the finish as I’ll likely be swapping to a aftermarket stock anyway. Make it lighter/easier mobility as well as modern look - which is personal preference. I figured a scope along the lines of 1-4/6 scope or LPVO. Or even a red dot with a magnifier

Different strokes for different folks. I don't like 22lr rifles but love 22lr handguns. PCC, same.

Tenda has the WK180 on right now for $999 by the way.

SKS is easy to scope, Kodiak or Magwedge rail. Alflaherty's has the cheapest aftermarket stocks but I like the Archangel or the Fabdefense stock for the SKS.
 
By the time you put all the mods you want on an sks it would almost cost the same as a wk180. Sks is battle proven but you are not going into battle and the wk would be better at the range. Cost of ammo is a moot point if you are buying the wk in 7.62. Sks fan boys will always stick to the sks but if you were to really weigh the pros vs the cons the wk does edge out the sks.

Well I have seen some sks’ on GP for 500-850$ with the few mods I would want to do. Wk’s can be about twice as much lol. Didn’t really think of getting a wk in 762 either till it was mentioned. Not a bad idea lol, how is the wk more accurate then the sks ? Is there a way to make a sks more accurate ?

I do know though the wk should have a adjustable gas tube to help with recoil and from snapping as they seem to typically do. If I buy a wk it would only be looking at a gen 2 only
 
So I’ve watched a few videos of the wk180 gen 2, and seems you have to upgrade them off the hop to stop things from breaking or rattling loose. Almost like the company just hammered the rifle together without testing it….

So if I’m gonna spend 1200-1500$ for a new rifle and then have to spend some more to make it “reliable” I think I’d be better off to grab a new sks or one that’s used in really good condition/well taken care of. Could likely buy/build/mod a sks for less then just buying a wk180 lol.

Are there any things to look for on a sks ?? Would I be best to get a matching numbers with wooden stock and then upgrade or buy one that has a aftermarket stock thay I like. Dunno if having a matching numbers rifle makes it more valuable like cars kinda thing but I like the idea of having one that’s all matching
