NEW in the grease...

Chop the barrel then driil & tap it for a 3X9 50mm scope:D
Oh yeah, then carve a deers head on the buttstock:D :D

I can't believe this post got 3 pages without a "bubba" post!

I've never seen a boxed Savage - I've seen (and sold) a wrapped Faz, and I have a degreased Faz, but that being a boxed Savage, to me makes it pretty rare. I'd keep it boxed, and buy a shooter.

Damn! You beat me to it!:D

Only, I'd cut back that ugly front wood and carve my initials in the buttstock with a pocket knife (after mounting the Tasco.)

Amazing to find one in that condition!

Greased Savage

First off, I own an un-issued 1943 Savage that was de-cozmo'd externally by someone else, but not the action. Options are:
A)Leave as-is, if you can appreciate an en-tombed rifle.
B)Clean externally, but nothing else. Keep box of course. Enjoy handling it while watching war movies etc. Dont shoot it.
C) Make deal with someone with option B.
Personally I'm glad someone else did the "deed" in my case or I'd have the same hard choice as you. I'm all for preserving history, but dont care to have a rifle I cant even touch. If you dont really "desire" an un-wrapped No.4, find a collector who does. Would be a shame to clean it, shoot it and eventually sell it (as most of us do), IMHO.
Cheers and good luck friend.

well, i have lots more to fondle while we are watching, a bridge to far, or something like that. we have lots more to shoot aswell. but i am torn between leavin it this way, and cleaning it up. im pritty sure im just gona leave it however. would make a great display piece

Lee-Enfield In The Grease

I got mine from a guy a few days after he degreased it. It hasn't been fired and probably never will as long as I own it. The gun came with an Experimental No7 bayonet for the EM-2 rifle.
My Irish model is still in the grease, as well as my No7.

X2 ... Speaking only for myself, none of my guns are safe queen "investments" .... Put her up for trade/sale and get yourself two shooters in trade ... Leave the "collectibles" for actual collectors ... I'm not one of them.

If you want an investment, buy stock.

If you aren't going to shoot it, sell it and buy two shooters. Unless collecting is your thing of course. If it's going to stay in the safe, it might as well stay greased.

Hey Brian, since you have a zillion shooters,I would put it away.
But I don't have nearly the amount of Enfield's that you do, so I would shoot it.
If you were dating Shania would you be content with only kissing her goodnight???:adult:

As a Northern Area Canadian ranger, we see quite a few "as new in the grease" rifles issued to new recruits but they are then our issue tools, but as a collector i keep my puchases in the grease as they are getting very scarce and will only climb in value

you should take a few pics of those new rifles you fellas up there are issued. im sure lots of us would love to see them
