I was out to Vancouver Island over the Xmas holidays to visit my father and while there he decided I should take his guns home as he figures he will not be hunting again which is likely a safe bet since he hasn't hunted since around 1980 or 81? So here are a couple pics of the first shotgun he purchased as a youngster living in the New Liskeard area walking old logging roads "potting partridge" that I am now in possession of. The gun is a Mossberg 183 D-C with interchangeable external threaded chokes. I am in the process of doing a video on the gun. I'll post it when it's completed.

Its in good shape. A lot of those old Mossbergs ended up with the external chokes missing or seized on.

Although it is a fairly common , and inexpensive , firearm ; it is good to see some family history being passed down . Reminds me of the days when lots of Department , and Hardware stores had firearm counters , and you could buy a firearm without a second thought from anyone . Congrats on the new addition to your firearm collection . .

Awesome! I have a model 185 in 20 gauge with box magazine. It has an adjustable choke. The plastic finger grooved grip is broken and the magazines missing. I’ve been searching for parts but they’re not easy to find. The blueing was amazingly done on your gem. Santa was good to Spank

I had the Stevens 58c model marked Sear and Roebuck and my best friend had the mate of your shotgun without the chokes IIRC. We spent many afternoons chasing partridge and rabbits on the east coast. Thanks for sharing, brings back some fond memories.

I have a Fox A grade circa 1909 that has been handed down since my great grandfather bought it new. My brother has a Win 1894 SRC bought new in 1903 by my father's other grandfather. Those two guns don;t get sold. I still use the Fox.

Finished the video on this gun. It's lengthy and long winded, lol to be sure but maybe some of you will enjoy it?

Thanks for making that video, I enjoyed it. My uncle has a very similar Mossberg bolt action, in 12 gauge. I'm not sure of the model number offhand, it has a detachable box magazine and an adjustable choke, similar to a poly choke. He likely bought it in the late 50s and it has spent most of it's life in his gun cabinet/safe. It is still in practically new condition. I've always thought it would be fun to take it out and see how it works on 5-Stand or skeet :d

12 gauge is probably a model 395.

I have a 12, 16 and 20 gauge of these bolt actions. My 12 has c-lect choke. 16 has c-lect choke and a factory ported barrel for some odd reason and the 20 is fixed full. Neat little shotguns.

I have a 12 ga, D Model and your 410 is the only other one I have seen with the detachable chokes. Lots of the C models, few of the D and fewer less with both chokes
