Minding my own business at the gun show this morning and came across this rifle. In 308 Norma Mag, looks to have had the iron sights removed and been custom restocked. Yet carries the Browning recoil pad. Serial 7L 399XX . Solid rifle, shoulders nice and a great trigger. I need a set of dies next. Please share any info you have on these rifles as I have never owned this vintage of Browning rifle.
Pics for fun.

Great looking rifle fer sure, but I'd pull the action from the stock and check for rust pitting on the metal that may have been cleaned up.
Browning goofed bigtime and fitted salt dried stocks to these rifles from '68 to '71 I believe and ruined many sweet rifles in the process. f:P:

Yes, was going to mention the Salt Wood of yor....
Nice looking gun.
Look forward to reading about the adventures this spring summer or when ever you get around to it.

Yeah, I tried to clean up a Browning T-Bolt .22 in one of those salt-cured stocks and the action screws were all seized in place such that I couldn't get the barreled reciever off. had to take it down to my mechanic and it took two of us and a shop full of tools to get it apart.

Yes it’s a peach. A few very small spots of blue wear/corrosion on the barrel. None beneath the stock line. When the front sight was removed there is a bluing touch up. The bore is excellent. 2.5# trigger. Small crack in the ebony tip, I might mess with…
Kamlooky, way less than that. Almost half.

It’s fate it seems. I didn’t shoot much at the gun club last summer. But when I was there one evening I popped my head into the clubhouse to see if the free little bags of potato chips box was still there. It wasn’t. But on the lost and found table there sat a big bag of brass. Upon further investigation it was in 308 Norma Mag. Norma brass. So I brought it home and cleaned it up anticipating one day needing it. That day was yesterday.

Nice furniture. Have basically the same rifle, much plainer wood.

Ammo was difficult and expensive pre scamdemic. Doubt that's improved much. Brass and dies may take some time to find. I'm a believer in shooting reloads with the correct caliber in the headstamp. The EE had a set of dies listed today for $100, which is crazy.

Performance is between 30-06 and 300wm, basically hot loads can duplicate low end 300wm factory. Really close to 300wsm performance. I find my Browning to be rather heavy, being woodstocked and carrying a medium contour barrel. Great rifles, and that ones a beauty.

True, but brass is very easy to make. Just neck down 338 Win or neck up 7mm Rem Mag. Neck will be a little short, but they will work fine. - dan

These are the last of the Supreme line. After these actions, the FN tooling was sold to Zastava / Santa Barbara / Las Coruna
